SOURCE: Kenmore Side by Side Refrigerator, freezer doesn't work, refrigerator works

Unless specifically made for use in a garage most units won't work properly. The owners manual should say what the temp range for proper operation is (usually 55F is the low range). This is because the refrigerator section doesn't need to be "cooling" to maintain 37F if the temps on the outside are below 55F. These things are made to work in a 70F room and will not work properly if under 55F. Stupid thing thinks it's cold enough so it will never turn on, the refer section will stay cold/cool due to outside temps but since the compressor never runs the freezer will just be the same temp as the refer section (at best). Sorry, but in order for a freezer or refrigerator to work in an unheated space it must have the temp control device controling the freezer section NOT the fresh food section. In other words, that model will not work in a garage unless the temps are above 55F always.

Carben,

I have the same problem and I am able to resolve it by defrosting the element which is behind the inside rear panel of the freezer. I use a hair dryer to melt the ice build up. It happbed a couple of times so I know that there is a cause for this which may be the defrost heater but I am not sure how to confirm this. Let me know if you have any ideas.

Check ur cold control thermostat, ur thermistors in both fridge and freezer ( they should be checked for both ohms and for amount of current being put out as per ur model ), ur air flow vent from freezer to fridge.( to make sure it opens and closes without any restrictions) On thermistors check for A close circuit and amount of ohms not just an Ohm reading. As per ur model. Most should atleast show 1200 ohms. Also Check door seals for leakage. check ur fan and air flow damper vent too

If there is ice built up on back inside freezer wall, you have a defrost problem. Either defrost heater, defrost thermostat, or defrost control (timer or Board) is bad.

Frige not cooling numbers not lite for fridge but freezer temp numbers 567 are all lite. unplug and plug in and both temp numbers r on 4 but u go back and fridge number is not lite and freezer is on 567

If you unplug it you must wait for at least 15 minutes before restarting the unit. This goes for any refrigerator so the coolant system can equalize and the compressor will restart.

There are 3 components involved with this error code. The defrost thermistor, The defrost thermostat and the main control board. Most likely you have defrost thermistor or themostat that is open and the compressor will NOT start because the power for the comprssor has been interrupted by the automatic defrost cycle and nothing is telling the unit that it has completed the automatic defrost cycle so the unit does not restart. The thermistor and the thermostat would be #1 on troubleshooting list. The thermistor will have varied resistance 10,000 Ohms and under and the thermostat is supposed to be OPEN / have continuity above 60 deg F and closed below 60 Deg F. .

If you need parts information I need your COMPLETE model number (Not Kenmore elite)
Example would be 110.11112222 (not your model number and all numbers willmost likely be different) I think your model number will start with 795.something because this unit was made by LG.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

I have a kenmore refrigerator model 5533360 the freezer will not cool below 20 degrees.

check the back wall of the freezer. If there is frost on it then your fridge is not defrosting. Either the defrost timer, heater or thermostat. Is the fan in the back of the freezer running? if not then is obstructed, stuck or burned out.

Freezer works fine but frige side not getting cold enough-side by side unit

Check rear wall of freezer to see if you can feel frost about halfway down. If so you likely have a defrost system problem. Three components involved in defrost system, Heater, defrost thermostat and defrost timer or Defrost control (circuit board).

is there frost buildup on the lower back wall in the freezer? defrost control/defrost thermostat/defrost heater. is the compressor not coming on but fan next to it is? compressor start relay. is the fan in the freezer running? evaperator fan motor. those are the most common problems. Greg
