Question about Panasonic Televison & Video
Capacitors are blown on the PSB-power supply board inside the set. You can do this fairly cheaply about 20 bucks and that includes a solder iron kit with Flux from radio shack and the thru-hole caps. Caps on the PSB should be completely flat (X)-cap view from top. Not broken at all. Best to replace all the caps on the PSB as some can pop and leak from the bottom as well. Try and get caps only 2V above what you currently have in there as larger ones will be hard to seat and will produce too much voltage and heat and can explode. American made caps or Japanese caps are the best way to go. The China made caps are infamous for going out.. If you don't want to solder the caps on yourself you can pull the board out and take it to a PC repair shop. Then there is always buying a refurbished one online. You need the Parts Rev number off the board to get the correct match.

Check to be sure that there is no voltage on the input line. You don't indicate what input you are using. Since the set appears to work without an input connected, try looking at the input cable. Also, if the problem is internal to the set, shorting the input jack would cause the same behavior. Please update this with what you find.

A lot of TVs are having their power boards go bad due to a poor brand of capacitor (CapXon usually).
If small problems are noticed with the tv, the solution is to replace the capacitors. However, once the TV gets to the point where there is no power at all any more (not even a stand-by light) then the power supply has to be replaced.
Visit Viewsonic's website or call your local Viewsonic repair shop to get a price on this board. They are usually under $100.

I had the Same issue. on a 50PF9431D/37 set. Many Plasma Set's use a LJ44-00118A PS-505-PH Power supply from Samsung. Known to have this common problem. If you can, or have a friend that can Solder components?. Unplug your set remove the back panel & locate your power supply. It will be the PCB in the center of the set just above the Video/Audio connections. http://www.shopjimmy.com/power-supply-unit-lj44-00118a-from-philips-50mf231d-40.htm. Is a Link to a photo of the PCB. Make a note of the locations of all cable connections then unplug them all. Un-install PCB, Check all Fuse first. I believe their is 5 or 6 of them on the PCB. Then replace the two 3300uf 10v 105C Radial capacitors at C8060 & C8059. Look to see if the Caps are deformed and or split at the top. The location of the caps are in the Lower bottom edge of the PCB. A local shop may Carrie them if not, digi-key has them. Part # http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail&name=493-1754-ND. Total cost was $7 with S/H.
