Question about Rinnai Vent Free Gas Heater/
I have a Rinnai Model REH-20TB-P unvented space heater. The fan does not turn on and the top half of the bricks will not light. We have to turn the heater on and off because the thermastat does not work. Would like to get it working properly.
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

SOURCE: Heater goes off
Possibly A bad thermocoupler. It is the part that looks like a stiff solid copper wire with on end sticking in the flame of the pilot light and is a safety feature if the pilot goes out it starts to cool and the resistance changes back you the module and the module shuts the gas off. I have seen these go intermediately faulty in waterheaters and do just what you described.

SOURCE: my rinnai 556fa propane heater
I had the identical trouble with my Rinnai 431F just now & read the unanswered posts.
I checked my intake & exhaust & found them connected & intact then went out to check the exterior vent assembly. The "bell" or dome was almost entirely clogged with ice.
I suspect the 60 - 76 lights flashing means insufficient combustion air.
Anyway, I took a hair dryer to it & in 10 minutes it was working as well as ever.
This won't help you October posters but if anyone else has this problem in the future I would start with the outside vent assembly. Get a good look right up inside because I would have missed this ice if I didn't get up close with a flashlight.
Here's a good source for manuals too...
I'm going back to bed.

SOURCE: Pilot light will not stay lite?
For some reason it seems the safety protection is activated? Perhaps a faulty thermocouple? Usually that anyway. Or electronics have failed.

Hold the lock button down for approximately one second to switch between locked and unlock. If it is locked when you turn it on you will need to do this first
