My audio remote control stopped working on only the volume. It works to power the receiver up or off, etc., and the volume control works perfect when operated by hand, but no longer with remote.

Check the remote control for its infrared emission. Check it with fresh batteries. Check it by pressing all the keys. You can detect the presence of infra-red emission from the remote control, using a cell-phone camera. If you wish to get more details about how to check a remote control, please visit this site. One among the posts has details about it. Surf the site with patience. In some cases, the remote control might need to clean.

Maybe the remote got dropped by the cleaners. If you could control volume with the remote previously and now can't, I suspect the remote needs to be replaced.

Hello, the most used buttons can wear out over time. On/standby and volume are the ones that are used most often. I suggest purchasing a new remote. It is available at shoponkyo.com. Thank you, Onkyo USA

How do I hook the cabels so I can control the valume with the TV remote?

What type receiver and which component do you want to control the volume? Give me model numbers and is it a separate component. Usually the remote should control the receiver volume. and anything connect to it. Is this a car stereo or a home system? If its a home system even if its new. It might be bad batteries or bad remote. Let me know more.

These buttons are the most used at the remote controls, so these are the first that came out of order. Since the volume comes down (this means that the tv remote receiver is ok) I suggest you to buy a new universal remote control.
