Question about Pride Jazzy 1170 Xl Plus JAZZY 1170XLPLUS

Motor Brushes are wedged in..

I have a Jazzy 1170XL. I know it needs new brushes on the right motor, however, when I remove the cap on the outboard side, the brush is wedged in. There doesn't appear to be anything to grab onto to pull it out. I have not removed the inboard cap to get at that brush yet. Does anyone know how to safely remove these motor brushes? Thanks in adavance.

Hi, well with extreme care you can pick away at the brush using a very small screwdriver however you must be careful that you don't damage the commutator on the motor, pick away from the corners in wards keep checking that you haven't hit the motor, extreme care is required here,, please note the brush is made of carbon so will break up...

I need the electrical motor P/N 90565704-04.

Do you need a new motor or is it just the brushes which need replaced? Firstly unplug the machine and disassemble the motor or gain access to the brushes, found on either side of the motor at one end only. Remove the brushes (they usually unscrew behind the black caps), if they are burnt or look badly worn or are less than 5-8mm in length, replace them. The BRUSH is the black carbon rectangle of hard material at the end of the brass spring. New brushes are often 25-30mm in length as a guide. Based on that information you then decide if new brushes or a new motor is the answer. A quick tip; If you remove the motor and clamp it safely, connect the correct voltage to the motor lead and switch on long enough to establish if it is working and running freely. If you cannot find the parts locally, try www.4ourhouse.co uk.

Right wheel turns slower than left one causing chair to turn right only?

hi Robert, normally this is because of the motor on the left hand side either needs new brushes or the brake is not freeing 100% , at worse it is a joystick fault ... check the joystick connections.. and the connections to the left hand side motor

How to replace the carbon brushes please.

After procuring the correct replacement brushes simply unscrew the plastic cap securing the brush to the motor, remove the old brush, insert the new one and secure the cap to the motor. You will have to run the motor a while for the new brushes to seat properly so don't expect the motor to produce full power instantly.

What results happens when motor brushes are going bad

Based on your description you should purchase new motor brushes for both motors and replace them. This will be a short term improvement. You should block up the chair in the air and run in the brushes by taping the joystick forward and running the motors forward for 1 hour and in reverse 1/2 hour NO LOAD. This will seat the brushes on the armature, that is, get a curve on them. If your budget allows, prepare for motor gearbox replacement in the next year.

I have a pride 1170xl with E675HT motors. I broke the black plastic brush holder getting the brush out. Can the brush holder be replaced separately or do I need to buy the whole MOTOR END CAP? I may be...

Mark,

The manufacturer parts manual indicates the following information:

The motor brush caps are available from Pride:
PLSINDV1059 Motor brush cap (Reliance 0003-0035) retail $2.68
The brushes are:
DRVBRSH1000 Motor brush Jazzy (Reliance 0002-6957) retail $36.31

The guys in tech service at Pride (800-800-8586) are always a good resource for the information you may need. If you are exceptionally nice to them they will drop a new brush cap in the mail for you for free.
You can also check with Reliance Motors at their website for information and cross reference for other brushes available based on the Reliance part numbers above.
A good local motor rebuild shop can recommend a comparable (more durable) brush based on the specs. I think you may be disappointed with the pricing of the more durable brushes.
You can try on-line at:

Hope this helps.

Sourcing motor brushes for E675 jazzy motor?

Hi Lane. What happened to your old brushes?
Be carefull fitting different brushes to your machine. If you do, make sure that the brushes you use are also for a 24 volt DC motor. Different voltage motors have different types of material used for the brushes, they can damsge your commutator if you use the wrong ones.
If you find some that are slightly to big, it is Ok to carefully file them down to size.
Contact a local service agent, they often have used brushes that still have a bit of life in them.
I often use brushes from one brand in other brands of machine, and have used brushes as well, but we are probably too far away in New Zealand.
Good luck. Neil.

Drive wheel locking up

Further to my above answer,
check all connector blocks and make sure they are clean and not corroded if they are clean with emery paper or replace as needed. it might also be the motor brushes that are not making contact properly, these are located on the sides of the motor under a small black cover about the size of a UK 1p these unscrew and the brushes pull out, there is a spring attached that pushes the brush against the motor, take them out (one on ether side of each motor 2 in total to each motor) and clean with alcohol or similar, be careful not to damage them, as they are out use a Hoover to suck out any dust particles out of the motor housings, just put the tube over the holes you removed the brushes from and suck. then back to the brushes, when they are clean and dry replace them back in to the slot you removed them from, do not force, they should slide back with ease you need to place the spring and the gold cap back in and hold it there as you place the cover back and tighten up the covers, you will need to turn the spring cap around until it slot in. see picture

if this helps you please click "YES" button

good luck,
Mark.
