I use to buy over the internet from Dell and have done for years until I started building my own. As Semore24 stated. Construct one to your needs and budget. Dells after sales service is brilliant. That is a major plus for any computer manufacturer. I always choose the extended warranty option as a precaution. They will come to you if necessary to solve any problems. All covered by warranty. Unless things have changed of cause.

Another option is buy a second hand laptop or one that is a giveaway. Install linux mint 16. That will be speedy and does all that you need to do. Mint is a free download on the internet. Some computer knowledge required.

If your looking for a laptop Dell would be your best option. You can contruct one to your needs. To keep the price down. From what your stating in the question you might be good with a tablet also. I would suggest a Samsung Galaxy 8 or 10 inch. you can just go to Bestbuy and check them out. Then buy one from Amazon and save a few bucks.

If you have a desktop you can share the cdrom drive over the network and access the cdrom drive from the notebook of the desktop. its a lot slower but it will work.

place both computers on the same workgroup
right click on desktop cd rom drive and click share drive
then on the notebook go to strat run type //"name of desktop computer"
if you dont know the name right click on my computer and should display computer name

Can not connect to the internet

Google "digital gadgets.com". There find "Sylvania Products". Then click on "7 inch netbook support" read and follow directions.
On item # 4, you will find your "Hot Spot" name. Click and Connect there.

For item # 5, you may have to call your Internet Service Provider (Charter, AT&T or whoever you pay for your internet in order to get your "network keys" fill that in and then click "OK".

Next be sure you go to "Start", "Settings", "Control Panel", "Internet Options", "General" and complete "user agent (requires browser restart" by selecting:
"Default (same as windows XP)" or
"Same As Pocket PC" or
"Windows CE".

I selected "default" and was off and running.

Although this isn't a "lap-top" it is a really neat little machine and does a lot of stuff almost like one. It should be great for travel! It is a little slow and has small memory, but it's inexpensive and usb/sd ports are onboard. A regular universal mouse helps-just plug it into a USB port. I'm doing internet, movies, word processing, etc like everything and I think a lot of people are way under-rating this fun little machine!

Name of simple computer only surfs and emails

A netbook is relatively inexpensive ($200-$300) and is designed primarily to surf the web and send email. It allows other functions, but you don't have to use them.

Google's Chrome OS will be designed to do exactly what you're describing, but is not available yet. You can read more about it at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_Chrome_OS

How can I connect my alltel internet card to my wii system

Unfortunately you cannot insert your USB modem into your Wii and have it recognized. Your Wii does not have the ability to operate plug and play devices in the way that your lap top does. The Wii needs to be hooked up to a LAN (local area network) via a wireless G connection from a wireless router or wireless capable modem, or hard wired to a modem or router with an ethernet cable (looks like a big phone wire).

There is a way to share your lap tops internet connection using an ethernet switch (depending on your operating system). If this is an option that you wish to explore and you have the necessary hardware, re-post asking how to set up a shared internet connection using a computer as a residential gateway. Depending on your operating system this can be done quite easily. You will need a computer with an internet connection (which you have), a 10/100 Ethernet switch, and two Ethernet cables. A switch is relatively inexpensive and the wires are as well.

I hope that this helps you with your problem.

Good Luck!
