The self mixing use variable rate which is much better then mixing it yourself. why would you want to change it?

SOURCE: petrol and oil

If the saw in not over 30 years old, it should be safe to use 40:1 fuel to oil mix providing that you use a modern synthetic saw oil. Don't use boat motor oil or other petroleum based oils. Premix them very well in the saw's own fuel can and agitate the can before each use. Regular chain/bar oil is used in the oil tank. Good luck!

Hi, my outboard stopped suddenly shows me warnings lack of 2 stroke oil.my system is premix is there any one can explains why? even i followed the strict measures!!

Hi, What model outboard? Make, hp, and year.

It sounds like your outboard was originally oil injected, having a separate oil tank that supplied the 2stroke oil to the motor,....but a lot of people disconnect the oil injection systems due to a fear of it failing (sometimes justified, mostly not).
When the oil injection is disabled/disconnected, all that happened was the separate oil tank and hoses were removed, and the oil instead simply added and mixed with the fuel at the nominal 50:1 ratio.

Your problem sounds like one of 2 warning systems that were part of the injection system, warnings intended to inform you that the oil tank level was getting critically low!
These need to be bypassed when an oil injection system is removed from an outboard. For example, many Mercury and Mariner outboards had a simple float switch in the oil reservoir located under the cowling next to the motor. If the level got low, the float dropped, and a magnetic reed switch closed, which operated the warning buzzer inside the control box. Loud as fark normally.

So if the engine has been fine, running premixed oil/fuel for years and just started showing these warnings, one of the bypassed level switches has been triggered, so if you can determine where it was connected on your motor, and how it was bypassed so to always give a "full" signal, it is likely that your problem will be very obvious to anybody remotely familiar with marine engines.

Do I use reg gas or a gas mix?

Matt, If engine is two stroke and not oil injected then yes you must mix 2 stroke oil and fuel. 4 stroke engine have a crank case which is filled to proper level with 4 stroke engine oil. Check the attached links, instruction and guides, Good luck

Fuel 2 oil mix on Johnson outboard 1964 -18h

50 to 1 all ways go for the higher as the oil is lube and a hot outboard needs it if you are wrong it will still run hard to push a boat home but in this case 50 to 1 is the one be safe on the water

Evinrude outboards

Johnson and Evinrude carbureted 2-stroke outboards since 1964 require a 50:1 fuel to oil mixture (2%) on engines without an automatic oiling system - 6 gallons of gas to 1 pint of outboard oil.

Change oil

It is a 2 stroke there isn't any oil in your engine perse, basically your bike either runs premix fuel or it has a oil reservoir that injects oil in to the fuel mix. 2 strokes mix fuel and oil together in the crankcase, that is why 2 strokes are somewhat smokey. The oil that is injected or in the case of premix is what is used to lubricate the engines internals. So you won't be able to change the oil by draining it out of the engine block. If it has an oil reservoir you will need to top that up from time to time.
