Cuts off when heated up

The trimmer starts and cuts but after it gets heated up the motor cuts out. The running time is getting shorter and shorter now only runs for a couple of minutes - works fine- then cuts out. Restart but immediately cuts out.

Its the way the carburettor works..You have not named the model and brand, but I suspect the choke is staying on after it warms up. This is an easy fix but needs to go to small repair shop

A number of possibilities:
1. Air filter needs cleaning. Remove two screws at the side of the filter housing (has the choke control through it) and remove filter from inside. Clean in water with detergent. Allow to dry before saturating with 30SAE oil - squeeze to evenly distribute. Then replace.
2. Fuel tank is insufficiently full allowing air to get in when machine is rotated awkwardly.
3. Fuel line or carburettor jet blockage. Try a little compressedair down the line.

The gas cap may be clogged.

The next time you run the trimmer and it starts to die, loosen the gas cap. If it starts running again, then you know that it's a clogged gas cap.

You may also check the air breather, it may be dirty as well.

Sounds like you have dirt/debris in your carburetor jets or fuel passages.

Make sure you are getting spark at the spark plug, to do this:
Remove your spark plug and check to be sure you are getting fire at the spark plug.
You do this by grounding the plug on the head of the engine and pulling the crank rope, if you are getting spark then:
Check/Clean/Replace your fuel filter if you have one, normally they are located in the fuel tank of weedeaters.
Also make sure you are using fresh fuel...and oil mix if your using a two cycle mower or weedeater with the oil to the right mixture and not too much oil as it can cause hard starting.
If the mower/weedeater is over a year old, then I recommend that you buy and install a new carburetor repair kit,because the diaphragm will get hard and that will cause it to be hard to crank.
Sounds like you will need to clean the carburetor or replace your carburetor internal rubber parts like the diaphgram and O rings.
I recommend that you use a laquer thinner type cleaner to clean and dissolve the laquer build-up in the float and needle jet passages.
Be sure to remove all plastic and rubber parts before using the laquer thinner because it can dissolve the plastic parts and render them unuseable.
Be sure to use compressed air to blow out all the fuel and air passages.
Be careful when blowing out the passages, because there are sometimes small rubber type seats in the bottom of some of the passages.
Sometimes you can get by with priming the carburetor or using starting fluid and letting it run a few times like that and it will flush the gunk out of the jets,but most of the time you will need to rebuild the carburetor.
Keep in mind that the float for the carburetor must be level when you go to reassemble the carburetor or follow the instructions you get with the carburetor kit.
When you clean your carburetor and remove the jet screws, you will first need to lightly seat the jet screws.
But before you lightly seat the jet screws count the number of turns it takes to seat the jet screws from their original position.
Be sure to mark the turns down on a piece of paper.
That way when you put the jets back in, you know to lightly seat them first and then turn them back out to their orginal position before you started.
Once you have your carburetor rebuilt that should solve your problem.

Sounds like you have dirt/debris in your carburetor jets,fuel passages or a diaphgram that is becoming non-flexible.
Be sure to check your fuel tank for water and dirt/debris, if there is water/debris then you need to clean your tank.
Also check you fuel line condition after a while they will degrade and need replacment.
Make sure you are getting spark at the spark plug, to do this:
Remove your spark plug and check to be sure you are getting fire at the spark plug.
You do this by grounding the plug on the head of the engine and pulling the crank rope, if you are getting spark then:
Check/Clean/Replace your fuel filter if you have one, normally they are located in the fuel tank of weedeaters.
When you remove your fuel lines from the carburetor be sure to make a drawing to how the lines are connected to the carburetor.
Normally the big line will be the line the fuel filter is connected to inside of the tank.The smaller of the two lines is the return to the fuel tank from the carburetor after it is pumped thru the carburetor by the primer bulb.

I have ztrax 2004 it runs for awhile then cut off you can start it again but runs for 10 minutes and cuts off again and gets shorter time cutting off a real problem can you help


Check your oil gauge or oil stick to see if you have enough oil. If oil is low ad oil to the full line on the oil stick or your dashboard oil gauge will tell you. or go visit a shop.

Why does my hedge trimmer die after a few minutes operation


This sounds like worn main bearings beginning to seize. Worn bearings generate more heat which causes the metal bearings and their races to 'swell," thus getting tighter and generating more heat until the drag of the bearing friction is greater than the power of the motor. Eventually you can't restart it until the engine has fully cooled down.

This could be caused by one or more of several things, but it sounds like worn main bearings beginning to seize. it's time to cut the cord shorter. Disassemble and cut out the bad part of the cable and either marrette or add crimps etc to put it back together... or get a new cord cap.

Goodman gmh95. The fan runs, cuts out, starts, cuts out as it nears set temperature.


If that's a variable speed motor(?), I've seen them do some strange things. Not that scenario that you have though. If it's under a parts warranty, have your tech start changing some things out, motor, control board to start with. It appears that your thermostat may be loosing contact? I know he bypassed it but how? And was the bypass for a few minutes or so? Or that you're issue seems to occur after 5-15 mins of operation, and that just happens to be a long enough run time to closely reach the set temp. at the thermostat. And that getting close has nothing to do with it, but the 15 mins of runtime is a better description. So have your tech over, warn them it may take 2 hrs, and pay him to hang around a catch it acting up. And set your tstat to allow it to get cold inside so it will run a lot when he gets there. Also, when it acts up, turn your fans' AUTO/ON switch to on, and see if it qits acting up. Not sure what that will answer but it may help you tech, depending on how it's wired. Hope this helps!

Ryobi 105r overheating


Well, I don't know just yet.
Is the smoke blue and does it do it the whole time that it is running? If so, the gas could be mixed too rich.
Exactly how long does it run? If it is 10-15 minutes then it is probably your gas cap that is the problem. It is clogged with dirt. The gas cap must be able to breathe or the carburetor won't get the proper gas flow.

Grass trimmer cuts out unless choke is open


IF IT HAS A HIGH SPEED SCREW TURN IT COUNTER CLOCKWISE TO RICHEN THE HIGH SPEED CIRCUT. ONLY NEEDS TO BE TURNED A LITTLE AT A TIME TILL IT SOUNDS RIGHT.
