My hozelock auto reel has stopped locking. Have tried pulling it all the way out and then releasing but it does not solve the problem.

40 meter Hozelock auto reel would not lock when winding back into the drum.
1, Make sure the Hozelock hose has fully retracted into the drum.there should be no tension on the hose reel spring.
2, Use a Black & Decker Workmate.
3, Carefully opened the side cover taking out all of the Torx screws (10 in total) remove handle.
4, Turned the reel over and placed the auto reel onto the Black & Decker Workmate.
5, Placed a socket into the Workmate vice then line up the centre shaft bolt on the auto reel onto the socket, this will hold the steel spring in place so that I could undo the 2 security Torx screws. Slowly remove the 2 screws- there will be a little spring tension when removing the 2 screws, take care.
6, Lever up the centre shaft up out of the reel to expose the internal hose reel, take note the rotation of the plastic cog inside the cover.
7, Remove the brake locking arm from the side cover.
the arm had broken in half, I used a soldering iron to weld the two halves of the brake lever back together.
8, Rebuild in reverse order.
8, When rebuilding the auto reel use the ratchet and socket to tension the steel spring, I unwound the hose out of the drum then slowly wound the spring using the ratchet and socket. This wound in the hose onto the drum up to the hose stop then a couple more turns on the ratchet for a little more tension.
9, Whilst holding the ratchet keeping the tension on the spring. Replace the 2 security screws on the centre shaft .
10, This link on Youtube I found very helpful (46 sec into video) you can see the internal working and the brake lever.

How do I fix Frontgate retractable hose reel

If the problem with your Frontgate retractable how is that it simply won't retract, on the assumption that the hose hasn't gotten off the coiling wheel and become tangled, and that there isn't a problem with the hose distributor - which runs off a rubber drive belt, or some other mechanical problem, it is possible to re-tension the spring on a retractable hose.

The principle of these retractable hoses is similar to the energy that is stored in the spring when you pull the starting cord on your lawn mower - which then retracts the cord when you release the pull handle. With the hose completely recoiled, using the blade of a screw driver, you can pry off the triangular cover on the left-hand side of the unit. You'll note four Phillips head screws which secure the round, black, plastic plate to the body of the caddy. If the tension is already "out" of the spring you can remove these screws and nothing will happen. If there is some residual tension remaining, the plastic plate may rotate clockwise a couple of turns when the last screw is removed (it won't spin like an airplane propeller, so don't worry . . .).

To re-tension the spring, I used a crescent wrench and opened the jaws so that the width matched the gap between the two slots you'll see in the plastic plate, and inserted the wrench into the two slots (the wrench will be at a right angle to the plate, at this point. Then, while holding the crescent wrench in place, I used a metal bar, and inserted it through the hole at the other end of the wrench (for better leverage), and turned the plastic plate counter-clockwise five full turns. Then, while keeping the tension on the plastic plate, re-insert all four Phillips head screws, and fully re-secured the plastic plate.

If the inner spring isn't damaged, this should restore the tensioning to the hose reel, as the spring will be further tensioned then automatically, as the hose is uncoiled - which will then be the stored energy that recoils the hose.

The auto stop mechanism seems to have completely stopped working. When play a cassette, it eats it. When you put the deck into play mode without a cassette and push on the pinch roller with your finger, it...

When's the last time it was cleaned? It surely needs it now.

Never touch the any part of the transport that directly contacts the tape with bear fingers.

This sounds like a failure of the take-up (left) reel to take up slack as it's fed in by the capstan.

You can probably trust the machine to fast forward or rewind a tape to test the ability of the reels to manage slack since either action only requires one reel to pull while the other just coasts. Failure would look like stationary tape that eventually would time out and reset the command.

If it won't do fast transport motions that eliminates the capstan/pinch roller.

If it CAN FF and REW then the capstan, pinch roller, heads or something is probably glommed up with sticky tape oxide, which brings us back to the first question.

The hose on the side that connects to the water supply is not the same hose that goes inside.
The side hose connects to the faucet and the fitting on the hose reel is not supposed to rotate.
The hose that the homeowner installs connects to the adapter on the center of the reel and this goes around when the spool is turning. Beyond that, I don't really understand the question. Hopefully this will give you some information that you can use and then post back.

I have an old Singer, Model #6146 from the late 70's or early 80's, can't remember when my mom bought it, but I can't remember how to thread it and I don't know how to put the thread on the bobbin. Any...

Cotton reel on top, take the thread from the reel to the left and over the top guide, straight down throught the tension discs, back up to the take up lever making sure the lever is at the top, through the lever right to left, straight down through any guides and thread needle front to back.
To wind the bobbin, reel of cotton on top, bobbin on bobbin winder making sure it is pushed to the left, take the thread to the left and round the small wheel and back to the winder, wind the thread round a few times on the bobbin, push the windewr to the right, and loosen the stop motion in the balance wheel.

When I switch the nozzle to high pressure the engine cuts off. Can you tell me what's wrong

Hi again and thanks for your response. If the engine is coming under an extreme load the unloader valve is stuck in place. Since the unloader valve is on the bottom of the pump it stays wet all the time and when in not in use the metal parts of the valve corrode as will the brass parts of the pump housing.
The unloader valve is on page B of this link: (Item A)
http://www.ereplacementparts.com/troybilt-0203370-2550-psi-pressure-washer-parts-c-26780_27006_25694.html

The following steps are hard to perform without causing havoc with your engine due to tipping so, what I am recommending is that you do NOT tip the engine to perform the following procedure without any dis-assembly of your unit at this time:
- IF you have a very short garden hose like the one that would go to a hose reel or a washing machine hose. Use that hose for this procedure over night. Connect the short hose reel or washer hose to the water supply connection of the pump and also connect the high pressure hose to the pump. Pour about 5 oz of regular engine oil into the water supply hose and tie the hose so that it is elevated (to retain oil in pump) Keep the high pressure hose elevated also so that the hose does not drain oil the oil you just added from the pump. After a few minutes with the engine ign. OFF pull the engine through 2 times. Let is sit over night. (What your trying to do is lubricate the seals and hopefully loosen the grip of any internal corrosion in the unloader valve area.)
The next day... after no more than 24 hours. Connect the short hose to a real water supply and start your pressure washer. once started do VERY short bursts with the wand trigger (1sec bursts rapidly). Your trying to force the unloader valve move and cycle normally in the pump housing. REMEMBER you added 5 oz of oil yesterday to the water system so be careful where you spray the first bit of stuff coming out of the wand nozzle. Keep up this 1 sec burst cycle going for 2 to 3 minutes or if begins to work normally your done and it is time to tidy up. .

If this did not work.... (it does about 85% of the time)
- You will have to remove the unloader valve and clean it.
Once removed try to get as much stuff off of the spring and o-rings as possible.
- Also you will need to clean the pump housing where the unloader valve installs.
- INSPECT all of the o-rings for cuts and again carefully wipe them clean so as not to damage them.
- BEFORE you reinstall the unloader valve you will need to lubricate the pump housing and the unloader valve with "White Grease" (Auto parts stores have small tubes of #105 white grease) Don't be afraid to use liberal amounts of white grease.
- Re-install the valve and test
This should bring your pressure washer back to normal again.

Let me know how things went.

I have a Miele silver moon that kept shutting off while using it. I replaced the hose with the new 125-s model but problem came back. It does appear to be a problem with the hose. Any suggestions?

My S558 Red Velvet had the same problem. I disassembled the handle and cleaned the rings and electrical contacts. The problem has not come back.

Wont coil back into its housing, so trimmer wont start. Has compression though

Hi, this a cut&paste from elswhere but it applies to your problem:
how to repair a recoil spring: whats missing is this, you should always wgear eye protection when dealing with springs of any kind.
remember safty first. :)

Remove the recoil shroud and take a look at the assembly.
You might have a broken spring or just a rope that has slipped out of the reel.
The spring usually breaks at one of the end tabs. If so, you will need to get a replacement spring and carefully wind that in, before re-assembling the rope reel. You might wish to replace the rope also, if it shows signs
of wear.

You will need to remove the entire cooling shroud. There should be 4 bolts on the sides. You might need to remove the fuel tank also. Pre-wind the recoil reel by hand [about 6 turns, to set the spring tension] and clamp it with Vise-Grip pliers. Remove the old rope. Thread
the new rope through the shroud housing eyelet and to the reel hub. Let the reel re-wind itself until it is full. If there is not enough spring tension you can wind it a couple of turns more by slipping the rope around
between the reel and shroud. Re-clamp the reel. Cut the rope to length and thread it though the handle. At all knots, burn and melt the rope with a
lighter to prevent untying. Re-assemble.
