When I look in disk manager it shows my external hard drive is in raw

DO NOT FORMAT YOUR DISK. It has been damaged; how easy or even possible to recover your data depends on the degree of damage.
Try your HD in another computer; if it works, make a back-up of your files on another disk.
To understand what RAW format means, try this
or look for it in Wikipedia.
By searching the internet ("raw disk has data on it"), the first article I found was this
which may be of some help.
In that article a Linux system is used to read and modify the disk. There other tools for repairing this type of fault, for example,
(I do not know if this free:: the information in the article is certainly free though)
Recovering your files will probably mean a lot reading, research and time, but you might be lucky. I recommend reading any article you are going to use through to the end before you start with it.

Error every time i attempt to copy a file of more than 6gb to the drive.

It's normal if the drive is hormatted in FAT32. If you want to use files bigger than 4.5gb you need to format it in NTFS. you can do it by right click the hard drive in "Computer", select "format", then select the Fyle System in NTFS.

BE CAREFUL: doing this will erase EVERYTHING you have on your hard drive.

Try to boot from your OS cd or recovery disc. Run the disk check software and see if your hard disk is mechanically ok or it crashed. If your hard disk is mechanically functional then run virus check on your hard disk. This will clean all the virus infections. And you will be alright hopefully.
If your hard disk's boot sector is damaged you may want to format the hard disk and place the boot sector in another portion of hard drive.

HARD DISK reading but no files appearing..!!!

Sometimes this happens when the computer is turned off by force e.g. lightning/suspend mode. You'll have to use hard drive recovery tools in my oppinion which could cost quite a lot.

ntldr is required to boot. It sounds like your file system may be destroyed - this is rather serious!
If you have important files on the hard disk then buy another hard disk and re-install the Operating System onto the new hard disk (remove the old one).
When it is working, add the old hard disk and see if you can read it. If you have IDE hard disks you must set them both to Cable Select (CS) if they are on the same cable (or set one to Master MA and one to SLAVE SL).
If you don't have anything too valuable on the hard disk, then boot to your Recover CD that came with the system and see if there is a repair option.
Or take it into a local PC rrepair shop fi you are unsure about any of the above!

Disk data is in read only mode. How change to Read/Write?

If you are referring to files on a CD, they are read only because a CD does not allow you to write on it after it has been created.

You need to copy the file from the CD to your hard drive, edit, and resave it there.

If the file is already on your hard drive and is read only, you can right click on the file name, and select Properties. Clear the "Read Only" check box and choose OK.
