The key to getting an Oreck to move or push is to use as low and angle of the handle as possible. The more upright the handle, the harder the machine is to push (move). The lower the angle or the closer the handle is to the carpet, the easier it is to move (push). Use a straight stiff arm that is pointed down and move your arm at the shoulder with a near locked elbow.

Vacuum is hard to push on carpets and hard floors.

Hey Mikchelle,

I am sorry to hear you are having trouble with your Dyson DC40. After having checked to see if there was any debris stuck in the brush bar, I would then move on to checking the filters. If your filters are clogged and do not allow air to flow freely through them it can make it very difficult to move your vacuum. Try washing or replacing your filters if they are too dirty.

Another thing you should check for is whether or not the brush bar is adjusting based on the surface you are covering. It should be at a different height depending on if you are on carpet or hardwood.

You can purchase replacement filters direct from Crucial Vacuum with free shipping and an exclusive 10% coupon for Fixya.com readers, use code: FIXYA10

Why is suction too strong

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC33 is a powerful upright vacuum, with strong suction to clean carpets and hard floors effectively. However I'm surprised to hear you're finding your machine hard to use on this particular carpet type.

I would encourage you to contact us directly, as in order to help we would need to take some further information about the carpeting, and how you're using your DC33.

When you have your vacuum to hand, please give our experts a call on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

Can you advise which setting should be used on different floors, ie hard floors and carpets, theres 2 different settings and I don't know which setting should be used on the different floors

Turn the machine on and look at the bottom. Turn to the two settings. The setting that stops the platten wheel from moving is for hard wood floors. If you cant tell, then setting 1 is most likely for carpets and 2 is for hard wood floors. Your machine is primarily a carpet vacuum cleaner, so 1 should be for carpets.

Check the axles of the wheels for debris accumulation. Also, make sure the height is set for the type of carpet that you have. Try pushing the machine on a bare floor--is it hard to move there also? Hope this helps!
