Problem with dealer

posted by harnam on Oct 30, 2007

i had bought a nikon coolpix L3 digital camera on 12/09/06 from an authorised dealer here in mumbai with a warranty of 2 yrs. there was  lens error and i went to the same dealer and asked for replacement.he told the lens would have to be changed and this part does not come under warranty. so we told him to get it changed and we would pay the cost. now he has changed the part and asks for Rs 3000/- and denies to give back the damaged part.
can u please help me find out as to whether the lens comes under warranty and also what steps can i take to get back the damaged part.

If the camera was new, yes it should be covered by the warranty that comes with the camera. However if it is used, then all bets are off, and it will depend on the person and or dealer you bought it from.
I don't know your exchange rate, but if it is too costly, then it will be between you and the dealer. If you asked him to fix it with an open ended deal, then you should pay the repairs.

However, the lens is the most easily damaged part of the camera, in most cases. And if the user used it in such a way as to cause damage to the lens, then the user should pay.
