There is no driver needed to simply charge the phone using the USB cable connected to the PC. It charges automatically, but in order to connect and synchronize, you will need to download and install Microsoft ActiveSync (for windows XP) from: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/help/synchronize/activesync-download.mspx
In case using Windows Vista or WIndows 7, download and install WIndows Mobile Device Center from: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/downloads/microsoft/device-center-download.mspx
- Install ActiveSync on your pc (check the getting started CD of HTC) - Connect your HTC to the computer with the mini-USB cable. - activeSync Synchronization setup wizard will start. - don't select anything of Microsoft Exchange server and click next - select the information types to synchronize like notes, favourites, files, media - click next & click finish.
I had that problem too and that's the Windows Mobile problem.
Go on your Touch HD to: Start -> Settings -> Connections -> USB to PC -> and check Active Sync (synchronize with Outlook) and clear the checkbox "Enable faster data synchronization" and tap OK in the right screen corner.
