Question about Canon PIXMA MP600 all-In-One InkJet Printer

Canon MP 600 will not print red

MP 600 has suddenly decided it doesn't like red, and prints yellow instead. This is the case with everything I try to print, whether it be photos, diagrams, or red type on Word documents.
Any ideas much appreciated!

Many thanks, Kungfustu! I cleaned the contacts on red and yellow cartridges with a clean, damp cloth which seems to have solved problem.

    Thanks, again!

If you do the self test or self cleaning operations does it print red on that? If it does then the issue sounds more like a software issue rather than the hardware. If that is the case then I'd uninstall and reinstall the software drivers and see if that helps. You could also just try cleaning the heads on the red cartridge. Remove the red cart. then use a cotton bud and alcohol (I used my wifes nail varnish remover) to wipe the heads clean and dry it.

Prints yellow instead of black

I had the same problem with my Brother MFC 490 CW. It suddenly started printing yellow instead of black. I believe my problem was cause by a mislabeled third party black ink cartridge. The cartridge was labelled black but it had a yellow end piece. In any case I took out the black cartridge and replaced with another. Initially it made no difference I assume because some yellow ink was still in the tube. After 10 or so pages of printing the print turned darker. I also did three cleanings and unplugged the unit and then plugged it back in. I am not sure what if anything these latter two actions accomplished, but I wanted to report all I did in case they were actually part of the solution. My own conclusion is that it was simply a mislabeled cartridge.

My printer won't print yellow even when I replace the cartridge.

Desperate measures!

I have a PIXMA MP 750 and months ago my yellow ink stopped printing. I was only able to use the printer for black and white printing. Every once in awhile I would try multiple deep cleans, new ink cartridges, etc. etc. I talked to the very unhelpful folks at Canon who suggested a new print head ($70), but they couldn't guarantee this would actually work. They really thought it would be best just to buy a new printer.

Although I was feeling bad about adding yet another cheap printer to the landfill I'd pretty much decided to get a new printer. As a last resort I decided to use a suggestion I came across (at pcuser.com) to run hot water through the print head. It was easy to remove the print head (check your manual). I propped the head up in my dish drainer and ran hot water straight from the tap first through the end with the little circular parts and then through the end with the metal strips. I eventually used boiling water from the kettle.

As I poured water through one end I started to see yellow ink coming though the other end so I figured the ink had dried in the head. I kept pouring water through (from both ends) until the water ran clear. I dried the print head, put it back in with the cartridges and VOILA! after MONTHS without yellow ink it's working beautifully again!

If you've tried everything else and feel desperate enough to buy a new printer you might want to try this and report back.

PIXMA ip3000 printer is printing yellow instead of red

Clean the ink cartridge contacts with a moist tissue or glass/LCD cleaner clothe. Do the same on the printer cartridge holders. Do this gently and carefully avoiding further damages to your printer and it's cartridges.
Declog print heads using denatured alcohol for an hour or two or head cleaning agents available at any ink refilling stations. You can use a suction device included in the refill kit.
Try using another cartridge of the same type by borrowing from a friend, relative or member of the family and see if the problem still occurs.
Try removing the printer driver, restart computer then reinstall driver so that the default settings will be restored. If it still exist, you can google for iptool software and try resetting it's EPROM.
If the problem still exists, you need to go to the nearest service center.

Canon i860 won't print deep colors

I had similar problem: everything muted and with brownish tint. Tried everything, finally discovered that I installed wrong cartridge: 6PC instead of 6C. The "photo" cartridges are pretty much the same, make sure you have the right ones: 6C, 6M, and 6Y.

Canon MP 730 prints wrong color tones

I was having a similar problem-- what was happening was the print cartridge head seemed to be letting the colors leak into each other. (the science behind this is beyond me!)-- I noticed that instead of being cyan/magenta/yellow, my yellow cartridge had actually turned green, magenta was picking up blue and was turning purple, etc etc. I ended up replacing the printer's printhead and all the color cartridges and then it worked.
You can order printheads online.
Not sure if this fixes the original reason why they got all mixed up in the first place-- if the printer will continue to allow the print head to leak the colors into each other-- but hopefully that's a fixit!

Magenta printing as yellow

Well, first off, are the alignment, and nozzle check sheets looking good? If not, then work on that. If so, then we have a problem. Try creating a test sheet in Word. Make red, yellow blue & black text and see if anything else prints wrong. Get back to me!
