SOURCE: Hi, starts to weld fine after a few seconds hi

It sounds like you need to change out your SCR chip on your motherboard; Miller makes one that i have installed on all our 350xl's, I don't have the number on hand but i can get it for you tomorrow.

Hi:
Have you check the fuses? Probably your machine experienced an overload. Check your owners manual on the troubleshoot section. Here's the link to the manual.

Miller S-54D 115V digital wire feeder that does not weld right.

Hi Kevin,
Causes of poor penetration: Travel speed too fast, welding current too low,
poor joint design / and or preparation, electrode diameter too large,
wrong type of electrode, excessively long arc length.
Solutions: Decrease travel speed, increase welding current, increase root
opening or decrease rootface, use smaller electrode, use electrode with deeper
penetration characteristics, reduce arc length.

Take off shroud, look at where the positive lead hooks into the transformer. You may find that the wire has melted, If you are lucky, you can loop it tnough to make a fresh connection. (also check the negitive)

Improper arcing

A milermatic 350, depending on how old it is.....check the capacitor bank inside. We had the same problem with one of ours ( wouldn't spray arc and was getting weaker) and the caps were bad. When you open it up, look at the caps and if they look like they have been hot....discolored and the plastic covering melted, then just replace them. I know we had trouble getting the correct size, but found some larger ones on ebay.
