SOURCE: how to replace the power cord on my DW849 Buffer

Yes. The ground will be green or yellow-green, the neutral will be white and the hot is black. This is the standard 110-volt wiring scheme. The neutral is either the white wire or the SILVER lug, the hot is either the black wire or the GOLD lug and green is always ground. some power cords have a green and yellow striped wire instead of the solid green. Just be sure to replace each wire with the same color as the one you are removing

How do you get to the inside of a makita 4.5"

there is a screw in the bottom of grinder next to the power cord, that's all you have to take.
(althought I don't know the model of your grinder, the most of makita brands have the screw right there) good luck!

How can I get new brushes for my 4 1/2 inch grinder Model #54-7009-4

What brand is it? Most often you might find them at Sears parts and service. If the parts guy is willing to match it with something that cross reference to it. Other than that..Give me the make of it. I might be able to find it for you. i would need the make because i am unable to find the Model number. I did call several places. Model numbers are close but not the item. Please recheck the Model number.
Thanks

Grinder doesn't start everytime the switch is pushed on and the light at the base of the tool comes on. What could this be ,the grinder is several years old.

that is a service tool light and more than likely the brushes are worn and need to be replaced, make a wiring diagram before removing anything, you can get parts from ereplacementparts.com, you would need your brand and model number. Let me know if you need more assistance

Angle grinder eats carbon brushes

Yes, the rock dust is what's destroying your brushes and armatures. It gets sucked into the rear vent slots and gets to those parts and eats them away quickly. I don't know of any vacuum systems make by Makita but there are some companies that make them for their systems. Blastrac is one that comes to mind but they can be real expensive systems. I don't know of any grinders with sealed brush/armature systems, they have too much heat to disipate. To make your Makita grinders last longer make sure you are cutting with the side of the blade that directs the dust away from the case and try to have a strong airflow blowing the dust away from the grinder to minimize the dust taken in at the back of the grinder.
