Dryer works perfect till the timer shuts off. then the display shuts off as normal and so does the heat. but stays running till I open the door

possibly something grounding the element to the housing. what brand of dryer do you have? GE/Hotpoint dryers are good at allowing things like underwires from a bra to get into the element area and ground out the element. or possibly the element has broken and the broken end has fallen against the housing. hope this helps

SOURCE: Whirpool dryer won't heat up
You need to replace the thermal fuse and the timer. A bad timer will over draw a thermal fuse and cause it to blow.
Please remember to unplug the dryer before servicing
