Question about KitchenAid KBFA25ER Bottom Freezer French Door Refrigerator

Open Question

Icemaker water overspray? Freezing on frame.

My freezer ice maker seems to overspray. Ice forms above the ice drawer and becomes rather heavy It only happens over the ice drawer, and the door seals are good.

This issue is not yet corrected... The repair guy sent by Kitchenaid claimed that there was nothing wrong with the seal, after only looking at it- and refusing to consider that it might be caused by the ice maker itself. I don't think he even bent down to look into the freezer. He said that it must be that we aren't closing the drawer properly- which is BS. The repair guy was useless, did almost nothing and was quite belligerent. He tried to make some suggestion that maybe I was lying about it being under warranty because of it's manufacture date. I told him that we had purchased a floor model.

So I removed the ice, dried the surfaces and made sure the door was closed. I turned off the ice maker for a few days too. Still the frost started forming almost immediately. I wiped the seal to clean it, and noticed that one corner is somewhat warped feeling- like it was malformed at the factory. The defect corresponds to the location of the icing problem. When I turned the ice maker back on, I did notice a faster build-up of ice. I suspect the fill nozzle sprays water around a little bit.

I will call Kitchenaid again and ask for a different repair person to come out. I'm just going to demand that the seal strip be replaced. If the problem persists after that it will probably be an ice maker issue.

SOURCE: Ice Maker leaking water in freezer and won't stop making ice

The filter should be before the fridge and should not affect it it sounds like the water valve from the fridge is defective .Other possibility is the icemaker head is defective and needs changing.

SOURCE: ice dispenser in door clogged up or frozen

I would contact Hotpoint direct for this one. It sounds like a design fault to me.

What I think may be going on is that the cubes are melting too much, then refreezing lower down.

Set your freezer to -18, and the fridge to +2 and see if that changes things any.

Check seals in that area. Where is the moisture coming from to generate the frosting? - Is the location high in humidity?

SOURCE: Kitchenaid Superba Ice Maker quit

Water dispenser works fine eliminates some potential probems, so disconnect the water line at the outlet of the water valve leading to the icemaker. Blow into the tube (with the freezer door open so the air has an escape route.) If you can't blow through the tube, check where the tube passes into the freezer section for an ice blockage. This would result from a water valve not shutting off 100 %, allowing a little water to dribble in and freeze the inlet shut. If you can blow through the tube, most likely the electric solenoid coil on the water valve supplying the ice maker water is bad. In either case, replace the valve. (it is a dual solenoid valve, part # 2315533)

Sounds like your water inlet valve is leaky. Go to repairclinic dot com AnD type in your model number. they will have a fixit kit with all the icemaker gear in it for the big bucks, as well as the individual parts separately. Check that your fill hose has not failed or that the icemaker mech assembly is not cracked or broken.

This is the procedure but yours seems to be a faulty Icemaker and needs to be replaced since your freezer is cold enough to make ice rapidly.

Check Temp inside freezer. It has to be down to about 10 or 15 degrees
This can cause slow ice making if its too high even tho its freezing everything else at 25 degrees
See if water is in icemaker.
Pour water in Ice Maker and wait to see if it ejects.
If it ejects thenyou need to replace water valve in rear bottom of fridge(Its the part that
attaches to water line out of wall)
If it doesn't eject then it is a faulty Ice Maker.
If its leaking same part needs replaced. The water valve at the bottom rear of fridge.
Thank you for using fixya

when you closed the door, the freezer froze all the condensation/melting ice, hence the icemaker freezing.
the best solution is a TOTAL defrost/clean out, then dry out.DO NOT USE HOT WATER/SCRAPERS,let it defrost naturally or use car de-icer.wipe out with bicarb to keep fresh.and then restart as new.

Ice Maker leaks water inside the freezer

I see you said you looked and the water valve is off but the only that I know of this happening is a defective water control valve. Like a dripping faucet that when off slowly drips until the ice forms and then one the ice maker dumps ice and tries to refill the water goes in every direction. Unplug water valve to confirm what I am saying, Tell me if it continues to leak. Sea Breeze

Water is leaking out of ice maker and freezing up where cubes are

Sounds like water valve is not closing all the way after the icemaker calls for water. This is because sediment in water builds up on valve seat therefore letting water pass through. Suggest replacing fill valve. Crescent shaped ice....ice maker on needs 4 ounces to fill icemaker, so any more than that will spill out.

Water leaking from freezer.

instead of ice maker heres a more common problem

sounds like a drain clog in the freezer compartment above. remove the freezer rear panel and totally defrost the evaporator area, directly under the evap you see( under all taht ice) a small drain hole that has become frozen over, try defrosting with either a hair dryer( not a heat gun too much heat youl melt everything) or by pouring hot water donw the drain until you get a free flow of water down the tube. after its clear reassemble and you should be fine

Ice accumulating in freezer

There should be a tube that brings water to your icemaker from the back of the fridge into the icemaker. This tube is frozen with water, or the inlet where this tube feed the icemaker tray is frozen. The result is that water cannot go to the ice maker, and instead, goes over the top of the inlet area.

Verify that this is indeed what is going on.

The fix is to remove the blockage/buildup of ice at the inlet. You may have to detach the icemaker to get to it. Be carefull with electricity! Also be carefull as plastic can break under stress!
The tube may be frozen to the inlet, channel locks can be used to gently twist the tube to break it free.
Good Luck!
