My recorder will work if I do not attach my line microphones to it. If I attach the line microphones, it does not record anything. Any idea what the problem could be?

The recorder will record from the built in mic, but not when using the microphones which connect to each other creating a chain of mics.

    1) There is no such thing as "a chain of mics".

Perhaps the battery in the mic is dead. Perhaps you plugged the mic into a LINE-IN jack. This would be easier if you used ordinary terminology.

Static in background of recordings

There is not enough info here to narrow this down to far. What is the sound source? The internal mic or direct via cable? Also, does the background noise stay the same regardless of the playback mode? Supplying these details will enable me to locate the problem circuit and provide potential fixes.

Thanks,
Dan

Hi I have a marantz pmd661 with a buzz on record when set to ext mic/line with no i/p regards

If you let the input "float" with no connection it very well may buzz. The input needs to be tied down with a driving source.

I want to use the mic xlr it is not working

Lets verify the simple stuff first. Make sure that the unit is set to use the "external" mic rather than the internal. If it is set that way, then there may be an internal problem. I will look up the service manual and get you more specifics should they be required. Please update this with the status.

Thanks,
Dan

How do I use 2 mics for the XL2 simultaneously?

Hi, on the left side of the camera you can set 'audio monitor'. Default is channel 1/2. You can choose to listen to 3/4 or 1/2 and 3/4 simultaneous.
In the menu of the cam you can set between 12 bit audio recording or 16 bit. 16 bit only records on channel 1/2 (the front mic). In 12 bit mode you can record audio on 4 channels.
hope this answers a bit of your question

Rode NT4 - power dying after less than one second brand new

Hi, there!

I have just bought an NT4 and looking through the manual I remember reading that the LED will light up only briefly when the mic is turned on. This indicates that battery power is OK! If the LED continues to be on it is an indication of poor batterypower. Kind of backwards, but that's what it's supposed to do. So... Maybe you're alright?

You might solve your problem by going to this site and uploading the recorder's firmware.

Would like to know if this helps. Good luck.

If you are getting a low battery light (that may be the cause of you problem), you should check that the AC outlet settings are right. If the settings are correct, you should take out the AC adapter and try it with batteries (do not forget to disconect the AC from the power and from the recorder!!!). hope this will help. Daniel
