Question about IBM Computers & Internet

Dead LPT1 port

Cannot print anything to LPT1. OS is Windows XP Pro with all latest updates. Printer is HP Laser jet 4ML The list of documents menu for the printer shows the document is offline (sometimes out of paper). The printer shortcut shows it is online. I have deleted the LPT1 driver and the printer itself and reinstalled drivers for LPT1 from the AOPEN and HP web sites. The Device Manager shows that LPT1 is working. I have plugged the printer in two other computers and they detected the printer immediately and installed the drivers without my having to do anything. I contacted AOPEN tech support but they offer no solutions; just tell me to see a service group and have them install the drivers. I have fiddled with the BIOS and tried setting the LPT1 to each of the three options: SPP/EPP/ECP. I suspect either that the LPT1 circuit is dead on the motherboard or possibly BIOS has gotten corrupted (but difficult to imagine how.) I know that this is a very old board but with so much installed on my computer I would find it very painful to get a new board and reinstall all of my programs.

You have checked everything. At from between 3 to 20 dollars though, I would just get another LPT card. You dont have to install anything in form of programs.

My printer HP LASER JET 5200 DTN shows "Ready" on the display but it doesn't print, how can I fix this?

First thing you need to do is establish whether the print engine itself is at fault, or not.
From the relevant printer front panel menu, invoke printing of one or more of the available reports (configuration, font list, etc.); do these print?
If the reports print OK, try to send some plain text to the device.
On a Windows system, you could do this by using the DOS copy command in conjunction with an appropruate net use command to redirect LPT1: to the (USB) port associated with the relevant Windows printer instance.

Looking for printer software hp656c for my laptop windows 7 (32 bit)

Thats quite an old printer, it should work with a generic printer driver for basic text printing, otherwise try some of windows 7s built in HP injet drivers. I doubt you will find a specific windows 7 driver for this model, its out of support life

Am looking for driver for an hp officejet 4100 series all-in-one, it just have 98, ME, 2000, XP os, in need a driver compatible to windows 7

click start, then devices and printers
Click add a printer
choose the port it will hook into...if the USB port isn't listed, that's ok, just choose LPT1 for now
now click the WINDOWS UPDATE button...very important! You must have internet to do this!
it will download a whole whack (yes, that's the technical term for the amount) of previously unlisted drivers.
Once the update is done, you can choose HP as the manufacturer and Officejet 4100 series as the printer.
It's just follow the prompts after that, and then plug in the printer.
If it doesn't automatically install the printer at this point, It should find it as new hardware, but this time you can choose HP and Officejet 4100 series for the printer because the driver now exists!
Happy printing!
If you run into any snags, post a reply here and I'll try to help you through it.

My printer refuses to print. The Red Status light came on so I checked and found there was a paper jam - cleared that. Can get green light to come on if I press the job cancel button but still cannot get...

Perform a Factory Reset

Turn the printer power switch OFF on the right side of the printer. Check that the front cover is closed.

Turn the printer power switch ON while holding down the GO button until the Toner, Drum, and Paper LEDs are lit.

Release the GO button. All LEDs will be off.

Press the GO button 8 times. The Ready LED will flash briefly while the printer is reset. After the printer is reset the Ready LED will be lit.

Print a Test Print Page

Print the Print Settings by pressing the GO button three times.

- If the Print Settings pages do not print, check for alarm lights on the printer. Clear the printer error before trying to print again.

- If the Print Settings pages print, the problem is isolated to printing from your computer. Verify the printer cable connects from the back of the computer directly to the printer. If the cable has become disconnected, loose, or connects through another device, the printer may not be able to print.

Check the Printer Driver Properties

Follow the instructions below based on the operating system installed on your computer.

Windows 7:

Click on the Windows icon => Control Panel => View Devices and Printers.

Right mouse click the Brother printer. Left click See What's Printing. The print queue will open. If print jobs are listed in the printer queue, click Printer (at the top of the window) and click Cancel All Documents to delete the pending print jobs. Click Yes to confirm deleting the print jobs.

Click Printer at the top of the window again. Make sure that Pause Printing and Use Printer Offline are not check marked. If either setting is marked, click on the check mark to remove it.

Click Properties from this Printer menu list.

Click the Ports tab. Verify the correct port is selected (LPT1 is using a parallel cable and USB is using a USB cable). Remember to click Apply if you select another port.

Click the General tab and Print Test Page button. The Windows test page should now print.

- If the Windows test page prints, try printing from a program.
Windows Vista:

Click on the Windows icon => Control Panel => Printers or under Hardware and Sound click Printer.

Right mouse click the Brother printer. Select Run as administrator and left click Open.

If the Windows test page prints, try printing from a program.

Windows XP and 2000:

1. For Windows XP Professional, click on Start => Printers and Faxes.

For Windows XP Home Edition, click on Start => Control Panel =>Printers and other hardware => Printer and Faxes.

For Windows 2000, click Start => Settings => Printers.

2. Double-click the Brother printer to open the print queue. If print jobs are listed in the printer queue, click Printer (at the top of the window) and click Cancel All Documents to delete the pending print jobs. Click Yes to confirm deleting the print jobs.

3. Click Printer at the top of the window again. Make sure that Pause Printing and Use Printer Offline are not check marked. If either setting is marked, click on the check mark to remove it.

4. Click Properties from this Printer menu list.

5. Click the Ports tab. Verify the correct port is selected (LPT1 is using a parallel cable and USB is using a USB cable). Remember to click Apply if you select another port.

6. Click the General tab and Print Test Page button. The Windows test page should now print.

- If the Windows test page prints, try printing from a program.

Driver for windows 7

According to the Hewlett-Packard support website, DOWNLOAD the DeskJet 3600 Series driver for Windows 7. It is equal to the USB driver for the DeskJet 3325. At the present time, the Deskjet 3600 Driver is available thru WINDOWS UPDATE ONLY. Enable WINDOWS UPDATE on your Windows 7 PC and manually download this driver.
At this time, a full feature Windows 7 driver solution is not available for your product. However, a compatible print driver solution for your product is included with the Windows 7 operating system. There is no need to download any additional software. Follow the steps in this document to identify the print driver that is compatible with the product, install the driver, and then configure it in Windows 7. HP Laser Jet 1320 Printer installation

Just downloading the PCL5 driver was not enough for my computer. Maybe it is enough for other users' computers. But in addition to downloading the drivers, i had to also download and install the "HP Laserjet 1320 plug and play print driver solution" at the bottom of the driver list. Save the file to your desktop, double-click it and follow instructions to install, then reboot. Then when I checked my printer list, the HP Laserjet 1320 was there. I printed a test page, and now i am good to go. Hope this helps.

HP LaserJet 1020 Prints a Black Line when at the right side when using Ms Word 2007

First, you need to try update the latest microsoft office patch file from microsoft or you can open the MS Word, go to "HELP" menu select the update MS Word or related. Try the latest patch file first. You also can try windows update and select custom update, see their list have this problem solution or not. Second, you need to go to HP website download latest driver for LJ1020 and suitable use on Vista. Lastly, if still not solve the problem, you need this problem/issue to microsoft, ask their solutions. Kent
