No, don't do that! You've got the wrong condiment in mind. Of the two similar looking dispensers in the kitchen, the vinegar and the oil, you want the oil. Actually, there are better kinds of oil for the purpose, but the salad oil (olive or canola) off the table will do the job. Just take care to use it correctly. Here's how it's done. First wash your ear gently with soap and water. Let it dry thoroughly. Then, using an eyedropper or a teaspoon, let a few drops of the oil go into your ear as you incline your head sideways to keep the oil from running out. While your head is still inclined, take a grape size piece of cotton batting and twist it gently into your ear to form a plug. Do the other ear the same way, if it is also a problem. Then continue your life for a day. Sleep overnight with the plug(s) in. Don't be alarmed by the hollow or distant sounds you hear. You might even hear some sloshing. Pull your plug(s) before your shower the next day, and do a complete (but always gentle) sudsing and rinsing of your ears. Avoid the temptation to accelerate the wax removal with the flat end of a toothpick. And if you can't resist the temptation, at least be super careful with the process. As your ear dries out after your shower, any remaining wax that was not rinsed out will reduce itself in volume and (ideally) separate from skin tissue surfaces. It may itch, or cause more strange sound sensations. After a couple hours, do a final rinsing. This should be all you need to rid yourself of the newly loosened excess ear wax (cerumen) accumulations. Remember, though, some of the stuff is quite normal and does useful things like protecting surfaces and lubricating moving parts. So, don't worry about removing every last trace. As for better oils to use, I think the best is Johnson & Johnson's Baby Oil, It is (obviously) safe enough for babies, gentle, and non-deteriorating. Others prefer "sweet almond oil." You can also find overpriced drug store concoctions supposedly formulated specifically for aural applications. One last caveat, though: if you are using anything with a food stuff component in it, take care not to let it become rancid in your ear. Do at least two good soap washes and water rinses to make sure the oil does not overstay its welcome. Good luck to you. Truly.

Taking Care of your Kid's Ears

Ears aren't very high maintenence but there some things you should know about ear care that will help ensure healthy, happy ears.

What's the story with earwax?
Do you need to clean it out or should you leave it alone? Alot of kids don't realize that earwax is really helpful as it is there to protect the ear.
In general ear wax doesn't need removing as it makes it's own way to the entrance of the ear and comes out by itself.
although ear buds are really popular, they are actually damaging to the ear as it pushes the wax deeper in and can damdage the ear drum.
So don't stick anything small in your kids' ears to clean out the wax. Let it just do it's own thing and come out when it's ready.
Is swimming a problem for ears?
Water and ears are generally ok but there is a condition called swimmer's ear. It's basically an infection in the outer ear that is caused by swimming water getting stuck in the ear canal.
Usually ear drops will help sort it out quickly. If you have a problem with persistant ear infections you can buy special ear plugs that help keep the water out while you're swimming.
Pierced Ears - Is there anything special that I need to do for them?
When you get your ears pierced you need to follow the instructions from the salon and not remove the earings for up to 6 weeks, otherwise the hole might close up.
Pierced ears can easily get infected, so use an alchohol rub if you start to see any redness or sores.
If it gets very badly infected you may need an anti biotic cream but don't panic, it's very common and should clear up quickly.
Be Well.

Ear feels plugged

There are several reasons this could be happening, but probably the most common reason if you have not and are not having any pain with this ear, is Cerumen impaction or earwax plugging your ear canal. Try an over the counter ear wax removal product. Follow the directions on the box. OR see your family doctor. The Medical Assistants can usually rinse the wax out. Sometimes when the wax has been there for a very long time, your ear canal may be irritated and bleed a bit. If so the doctor may want to place you on a temporary medication for this.

Im swimming every day ,what can I put into my ears to stop wax build up

!st of all if you are swimming everyday then you shouldn't have wax buildup. That's one of the problems with swimming a lot, the water and chlorine get into your ears and remove all the oils, that's why swimmers get (swimmers Ears). Now if you've just started swimming and water is getting trapped in your ears then you can go to the store and buy some Debrox ear wax remover ora lot of people just take regular old peroxide and put 2 or 3 drops in their ears and let it go to work. 2 or 3 drops every day and in a week or so your ears should be cleared out. The just a drop every couple of days to maintain it.

What is ear wax and do I need to get rid of it?

Ear wax always gets a really bad press but it's actually there to help the protect the ear. It's produced in the ear canal and then slowly makes its way to the opening. It should come out naturally by itself or with gentle daily washing. When you use ear buds you just push the wax deeper into the ear and ultimately that increases the risk of infection.

The braun thermoscan giving inaccurrate temperature readings, how to revtify this problem

Pull the pinnacle of the ear up and back. The sensor must be closer to the tympanic membrane to read a more correct core temp. The sensor must be free of debis and if the ear is infected or the canal has wax present as well as other forms of debis, u will not get a correct temp . If the subject has chronic ear issues I would use an oral trmp or preferably a temporal scanner

Should you clean out your ears with Q-Tips (cotton buds)? I always thought it was a good idea but someone told me you should just leave ears alone.

Although people like to use Q-tips to clean out their ear wax, they should just leave it alone as it's the ear's mechanism for self-cleaning. If you have a build up of wax you can see your doctor but otherwise you can just leave your ears to clean themselves.

How to clean the domes on hearing aids

Take the domes off, wash them out or use a pipe cleaner to poke out the wax. If you have washed them, make sure they are thoroughly dry before you put them back on. When you put them back on make sure they are firmly on the receiver tip or you will be taking a trip to A&E to get it removed from your ear canal.

One ear bud does not have full sound, i think it might be ear wax any way to safely clean with out damaging the speaker?

This is caused by microscopic wax build up in one ear. You'll probably have to send the earphones to Shure for replacement.
