How do i remove the fan and pulley on a 1987 ford ranger 2.9 v-6?

The question is: How remove clutch in order to remove fan mounted on its engine-side face.
  • Generally, the clutch drive half shaft must be uncoupled from coolant pump (impeller drive) half shaft using special wrench kit available as loaner from AutoZone (free with $79 approx deposit).
  • Best done after shroud & radiator remove after coolant drained.
  1. Uncouple coolant pump and fan clutch drive shaft(s) as follows:
    1. span across combo-pulley-sheaves-unit mounting bolt heads with large tool kit wrench, and
    2. span inline clutch coupling nut with small tool kit wrench. Then,
    3. turn small wrench (and coupling nut) CW while resisting with large wrench (CCW) to turn coupling nut until disengaged from coolant pump drive shaft.
  2. Remove fan/clutch assembly.
  3. Note direction of mounted fan hub and fan blades orientation to ensure proper re-assembly.
  4. On rear of clutch assy, remove 4 bolts to disengage and remove fan.
  5. Assemble new fan to clutch (or, preferably, new clutch and new fan) using new bolts and washers provided with fan.
  6. Couple fan-clutch assy to coolant pump drive shaft as per opposite of uncoupling step 1, above. (Turn inline nut CCW to tighten...30 ft-lb.
  7. Check that fan can be hand turned...CW.)
  8. Rest shroud over and onto fan.
  9. Replace radiator; remount shroud; reclamp hoses, and refill and air purge cooling system.

Neighbor has a Briggs & Stratton Elite Series 5550 generator. How do you remove the generator from the engine. Need to repair oil capacity switch inside.

Hello; The Briggs engine front case is shaped to accommodate the internal mounting of the Alternator section. A service manual for this model would be very helpful. I believe you need to dismantle the back of the Alternator where the outlets are and then the outer case with the stator windings in it. This will leave the rotor ( the long shaft with windings on it ) which will be attached to the output shaft of the engine by some coupling device the you must dismantle. John

The motor runs but the end unit is not spinning.it is likethe two parts are no longer engaged.

Uncouple the unit where the large locking knob is and check the mating connection. Turn the string head and note if the driveshaft is rotating where you uncoupled it. For the top driveshaft this is more difficult as it only turns once the clutch is engaged and this requires engine speed to do so. So if you attempt to turn just the upper drive shaft where it was uncoupled it will spin freely (unless the clutch has malfunctioned). If you have a unit that doesn't have the connecting link, then disassembly will be required at the front engine cover to test to see if the driveshaft has broken. Remove the four screws (Torx) in the handle that bolt to the front engine cover. You will also then need to remove the throttle cable off the throttle shaft lever on the carburetor. If the ON/OFF switch is in the handle, then the wires from it may or may not have enough slack to allow you to completely remove the trimmer handle off of the clutch drum. If not, you will need to loosen the front engine cover and remove any wires that go there (to the coil). Mark the location of any wires you remove. The top end of the driveshaft should be inside the clutch drum.

Have new motor, how does shaft couple to generator

The shaft to engine has male tapered end and fits very tightly to armature of gen. Remove stator and remove center bolt thru armature. Place a piece of hardwood aganst metal part of armature and rap with hammer (one side then the other). Very carefull not to damage the windings or metal parts of the armature. If it does not come loose in short order apply penetration lubricant and wait for it to soak in. Good luck

Start procedure for chainsaw ncr 4550

The header says that this is an electric saw which doesn't have a start procedure--just push the button and it runs. Electrics also don't have a clutch because the motor doesn't need to continue running when not cutting like a fueled engine does. Most electrics, however, have a safety device that uncouples the chain drive sprocket from the drive shaft to protect the gearbox. Remove the bar and chain, then look for a broken/disconnected drive link or spring connected with the sprocket. If the shaft itself does not turn, then there is likely problems in the gearbox. Hope this helps!

Low oil switch cut engine off and on when cold

It is not the oil switch you need to adjust the heads open the side and check on the settings for both in and out and adjust them according to the manual...in the winter sometimes they do not like heavy oil so check the oil weight and try lighter one
