Usually there will be a dashed line that is around the image. Sometimes it will just surround a darker portion of an image, such as the text portion on a white piece of paper. This is common. Use the mouse and aim it at the dashed line and "pull" the lines to the edges of your document, then press accept. This should fix your problem.

I want to know how to use the scanner - we have lost instructions

Instructions
    • 1 Determine if the scanner has flatbed only or ADF (automatic document feeder). Scanners with have a flat glass section for scanning, but they may or may not have an ADF. Determine if your scanner has one of those so you can scan one sheet or multiple sheets at a time.
    • 2 Place paper in respective slot. Insert the paper into either the ADF, or place on the flatbed for scanning use. Make sure the glass is relatively clean. If you're using the paper feeder, make sure the pages do not have staples or paper clips still attached.
    • 3 Press the "Scan" button or use an application on the computer that can interface with your scanner. Use this to grab the image of the documents or pictures you desire to be digitized.
    • 4 Save scanned item as you want it. Store the now digitized image to whatever format you desire (whether it is PDF, JPG or other). Keep track of where your storage location is so you may retrieve the data soon.
    • 5 Retrieve it. Remove your papers, and browse to your digitized documents.

I am trying to scan a document and it is breaking the document up into 4 picture size documents

Hi, It sounds as though you have managed to set the scanner to automatically break up originals. In your scanner driver (I'm not with one at the moment so I'm working from memory) locate the button that says 'Advanced'. When the new window appears look for a button that says 'Reset' or 'Default' It may be a menu item, I'm not sure.
Many scanners can be set to do multiple scans. this is usually indicated by a number of faint rectangles showing in different places in the preview scan. You just have to find the button that turns that feature off.

HOW DO I SCAN PICTURES TO MY MAC OSX

Load the item to scan You can scan from the scanner glass or from the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder) tray, if your product has one. Make sure that the product is connected to the computer. Turn the product on. Load the picture or document: Scanner glass : Place the item with the print side down on the scanner glass, and then position it according to the engraved guides around the glass (usually on the right-front corner or the left-front corner). Close the scanner lid. ADF : Place the item into the document feeder tray. The printed side faces up and the top edge goes into the tray first. Adjust the width guides to fit the item. CAUTION:Do not load photos in the ADF. Use the scanner glass instead to prevent damage to photos. Use HP Scan to start a scan Use HP Scan to scan items and edit them to adjust resolution or color, crop, remove red eye, etc. To scan a picture or document, follow these steps: Open the HP Scan program in the Hewlett-Packard folder. From the Scan Profiles screen, click either Pictures ( ) or Documents ( ) . Click Profile Settings , and then adjust any settings in the Capture , Adjust , and Page Options (for documents) or Enhance (for pictures) tabs as appropriate. If you want to save these settings as a custom scan profile to use in the future, follow these steps: Click the drop-down list to the left of Profile Settings , and then click Duplicate Selected Profile . Type a name for the profile in the text box under the profile icon. The new profile saves under Custom Profiles. Click Scan . Make any desired changes to the scan preview by using the icons available in the toolbar and the Adjust window. NOTE: You can use + and ? buttons in the Bottom bar to add or delete pages in the OUTPUT list. You can reorder pages by dragging them to new positions in the Sidebar. Select a destination from the Toolbar: If you opened HP Scan from other software, and want to send the scan to that software, click Return . If you are ready to save, print, or send the scan to a specific destination, click Save , Print , or Send . NOTE: If you are saving the file, make sure to select the file format that you want.

I am trying to scan a document and it is not working, I have a hp photosmart c4280 printer. How do I install a usb cord

hi
Place the document or image into the scanner for scanning. A scanner with a paper feeder will only receive flat papers and photographs, but a flatbed scanner opens to accommodate books, fabrics and leaves along with flat papers. There is even a attachment for feeding photo slides into flatbed scanners.
  • Step 2 Start the scanning softwaremag-glass_10x10.gif. If the scanner does not engage the software automatically, press the "start" or "scan" button, or click the scanner icon on the computer screen to initialize the software.
  • Step 3 Activate the scan. Click the "file" menu and select "acquire," "import," or another practical choice that applies.
  • Step 4 Preview the item to be scanned. Most scanners have a preview option. This will show the scan area inside dotted lines. The lines can be moved with the mouse to relocate, enlarge or crop the scanning area.
  • Step 5 Set the resolution for images by number of dots per inch (dpi). For computer screen viewing, 100 dpi should suffice. Use 200 to 300 dpi for items to be printed.
  • Step 6 Use the appropriate setting for scanning black and white text. If the scanner does not show a preset for text, use "line art" or "black and white" at 300 dpi. Then use the optical character recognition (OCR) program to convert the image of the text into a file for word processi

How do I scan more than one page at a time

    Hi there,
To scan more than one page at a time you can use ADF.
The Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) can scan multiple pages, including duplex pages. When using the ADF:
    * Load the document into the ADF faceup, short edge first.
    * Load up to 50 sheets of plain paper into the ADF input tray.
    *Scan sizes from 148 x 210 mm (5.8 x 8.3 in.) to 215.9 to 355.6mm (8.5 x 14 in.).
    * Scan documents with mixed page sizes (letter and legal).
    *Scan media weights from 52 to 120 g/m2 (14 to 32 lb ).
    * Do not load post cards, photos, small items, transparency, photo paper or the thin media (such as magazine clippings) into the ADF. Place these items on the scanner glass.

Hope this helps. Please rate my response.
    Thanks
    Have a good day.
