So it started when I was watching a blu and about 30 minutes into it it froze. Then when i would restart the system it would at best play for a few mins and then freeze again. It seems the longer i let the PS3 rest the more it will play. But i havent been able to get it to play more than 10 minutes straightsince the problem started.
It also seems that every time I take the blu-ray out i see a faint line that goes straight across the disc.. looks like dust or something, and it is easily wiped off.
DVDs are playing just fine, and i do not see the faint line when i take them out.. I dont have any games so im not sure if they would work or not.
The faint lines are nothing. its just smudging or something. the main reason why a ps3 wont play a clean bluray movie is if your system is in need of an update if you have already done that then it may be an issue to call sony with...
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

You can try the steps below. Its from PlayStation Forum:
Turn off Playstation®3. 2. Hold the power button down; the system
will turn on and turn off once again. 3. Once the System has been
shutdown, re-press you finger until you hear 2 consecutive beeps 4.
When you hear the 2 beeps take finger off power button. 5. You will
be prompted to plug in your controller via USB and then hit the PS
button 6. The Recovery menu will pop up.
The current Recovery
Menu supports: • Restart System: Restarts the PLAYSTATION®3 System. •
Restore Default Settings: Reset all system settings back to default. •
Restore File System: Checks for corrupt/missing system files. •
Rebuild Database: Rebuilds the OS for the PLAYSTATION®3. • Restore
PS3 System: Fresh restore; Deletes everything and starts from Scratch. •
System Update: Update the PLAYSTATION®3 System
If the above
steps still does not solve the problem, then I think will have to update
Update your PS3 (in the settings menu the 1st option).
on the internet browser on the PS3 then go on the menu press triangle
then on one of them there are delete cookies and the delete the others
as well as cookies.
You could also try this as well: put the
PS3 on then press the eject button (with no disc in) then hold it and
switch the PS3 off at the back with your finger on the eject button
still holding it, then put it back on and the fan test should be working
this may cool it down. It might be over heating.
But if your
problem is not still solved, then maybe you should call sony for further
You have the same problem i had just a couple of weeks ago you need to call sony and tell them your problem and send it in it will cost $140.Their phone number is 800-488-7669 .This happens when you play MW2 to much but its hard to stop its so fun.
Do need the internet, just go into your settings tab on the intro menu for the PS3 and hit system update. Use the via internet option and it finds the newest version...2.70. Takes a bit to download but, when it's done you get to enjoy watching the otherwise $30 drink coaster.
1st DO NOT EXPOSE THE BLU-RAY FOR ANY REASON - You run the risk of blindness and radiation exposure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please advise what FirmWare Version you are currently running on. You can find this under;
Settings>System Settings>System Information.
Once I have this info I will provide you with the best fix if needed but It is probably down to out of date drivers. There have been a number of changes to the blurays drivers recently and if these havent been updated then this will most likely be your problem. To solve this all you need to do is take your system online and download the newest FirmWare update. - There are people who NEVER use the system online for different reasons. Since you brought the system BluRay has gone through 4 upgrades. Any BluRays you buy now wll likely be incompatible for playback with the drivers you have on your system.
If you need any further advice on getting online with thew PS3 please post it as a new issue and I will help you - but the PS3 talks you through it to be honest
