It starts cold very well. after running for 10 to 15, 20 minutes, cutting small tree branches, putting it down, cutting some more etc, it stops running. Then it will not start. so I put it down and let it cool down for 15 to 20 min. and it starts. I have blown through the fuel lines all the way from the fuel tank, through the carburetor, making sure there is no blockage. I made sure the air filters are not blocked etc., Everything is pointing to the unit is getting to hot. But I cannot find out why. Appreciate your help. Tony

It sounds like you have the wrong spark plug installed and/or your gas/oil mixture is incorrect. Make sure the air filter is not clogged - usually a sponge type at the air intake.

Thanks Isojim. I am correct in assuming that the mixture is to lean, meaning I do not have enough two-stroke oil mixed with the required amount of gas? Or is the mixture to rich, meaning I have to much oil mixed with appropriate amount of fuel?? Thanks in advance.

If it is running hot, the mixture is too lean and you need more two cycle oil in the mixture.

  • isojim Mar 21, 2014

Most chainsaws like a 50:1 mixture, but some go to 32:1. Mix small amounts of each to see which one your saw runs best at.

SOURCE: i would like some advice on how to tune a cs 3400

Hi, you can't tune these, so if its not running smoothly, check air filter, clean and replace. Check spark plug, clean if necessary and replace. If problem persists it could be dirt in the carbretta, so flush this out with clean fuel, after this, drain fuel tank and replace with fresh fuel, ensure you have the correct mix of fuel.
Hope this helps

SOURCE: Loss spark

Hi

You need to replace the coil but first try to change the sparkplug and see what is happening.

SOURCE: echo cs-3400 wont start .

if you have no spark

check for faulty plug 1st, then pull kill wire off at kill switch, then check for grounding ht lead ,
then pull kill wire off at armature , if still no spark most likley faulty ignition armature
i suspect the part number you need if its type 1 is 15662639130
replace it and set air gap and reassemble and test

here is web site for parts

SOURCE: Poulan 16" saw, start fine, runs fine until it

A couple of ideas, it could be a fuel tank breather issue, when it starts to die just try loosening the fuel cap, if the saw picks up again you will need to change the breather, the only other thing i can think of is a bad ignition that is breaking down when hot, the only aswer to this is to replace the ignition unit

My Echo CS 3400 chain saw has an air vent problem

Most handheld power tools have a tank vent that will hold some pressure, Don't quote me. But If I turn the saw sideways and the vent allowed fuel to drain out THIS WOULD CREATE A FIRE HAZARD. If the fuel is boiling when you open the fuel cap could this be a engine temperature problem? or low octane fuel.

Car starts but after running awhile will stop in the road while driving?

This could be almost anything. Does the engine turn but not start when it stops? If so, can you determine if the engine is getting gas?

If you leave it for a while, does it then start and run for a while? If so, a very common problem is the electronic ignition pickup coil. This is the part that replaced points in the distributor. They develop an open when they get hot and when they cool down the connection is made again. This makes the car run until it gets hot and runs again when it cools down.

The good news is the pick up is not very expensive or difficult to change.

Best of luck, Jim

BRAND NEW ECHO CS-600P HARD STARTING, HAVE TO PULL THE RECOIL LIKE 20 TIME BEFORE IT WILL START.

Are you pumping the primer bulb until fuel flows into the bulb, setting the choke, and the fast idle is being set? Set the choke at half position after the first 'pop' and don't touch the throttle until it starts running. If you are doing these things per the instructions, take the machine back for warranty adjustment. Hope this helps!

What are the adjustments for the high and low mixture screws on the carbureator? the carbureator is from an echo 500vl chainsaw.

Echo thinks your actual model number is CS-550EVL. Page 14 lists the starting points for carburetor adjustment here:
http://www.echo-usa.com/pdf/documentation/CS550evle_010186.pdf
Additional manuals for you saw can be found here:
EchoUSA
http://www.echo-usa.com/documentation.asp
More choices can be found by typing CS in the model: window then clicking “Search”.

Once initialized this is the best procedure I have found.
Carburetor Adjustment by Madsens.com
http://www.madsens1.com/saw%20carb%20tune.htm
CW is leaner; to lean will destroy the saw. If over tightened closed (CW) the adjustment screw faces are easily marred; marred adjustments are difficult to impossible to set properly.
Clean the air filter; adjusting with a dirty filter can cause a run lean condition once cleaned and the saw run.

There are 2 wav (sound - idle & full – may not be highlighted) files that I find most helpful, I think you will too. HTH

Blower loses ignition when hot

I had a motorcycle that did that. Was a bad coil that only showed up after it was ran and heated up. As soon as it cooled off it was fine for a few more miles. Replace the coil.
