I have the same problem and after extensive research Ihave found thousands of people like us in this similar situation. Everyone is getting the same response; send in ps3, get charged $150.00 and receive a refurbished but working ps3. This is absolutely unacceptable. Everyone who experiences this issue, you need to contact the president and c.e.o office of Sony and politely but firmly explain your dis-satisfaction with Sony and feel that a product of this caliber and price should not fail, get into detail of how Sonys decision to charge you $150 for a refurbished model will have a tremendous impact on the purchase of future Sony products such as TVs, camcorders, etc. We need to take a stand. If one person ( me ) does this, they do not give a ****. But if thousands of us unite and call to the correct office, not the sony tech. service. but corporate headquarters, heads will spin and action will be taken. Now yes, it is a long distance call to Japan, but we all have internet and are able to make free calls, so there are no excuses . Make the call and lets make something happen.

when calling, ask to speak to these people and do not be afraid. just because they are CEO and CFO.. they are human just like you, they need to be told from the regular consumer that they are producing a defective product and then stiffing the comsumer with the financial responsibility of repairs. And you will not pay to have it repaired and you will purchase an XBOX 360 or NINTENDO Wii. and if they dont, then do it. BOYCOTT PLAYSTATION as i have until they oblige by my requests. I WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER SONY PRODUCT FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE . BE FIRM AND STOP LETTING BIG CORPORATIONS TAKE ADVANTAGE!!
