If you have tried a new toner cartridge and that didn't fix it you probably need to put in a new drum or Fuser kit. If it is really old and has had a lot of use I would consider replacing the whole printer with a new one. The fuser kit I saw listed on Amazon for this printer was half the price of a newer printer. If you do a lot of printing or this is in a business environment make sure when looking at replacements that you get one rated for the number of pages you print a month. I have had really good luck with HP and Brother laser printers.

SOURCE: gestetner dsc38 error code

sc386 is a color density error specific to black, but it usually is caused by the development unit rather than the drum. If the drum is old or worn you may want to replace it, but almost every time, replacing the DV unit will get rid of the sc386 error code.

My printer will not print. I recently changed ink cartridges and I'm getting a message suggesting that I realign something. How do I do that?

Most all-in-ones require you to scan an alignment sheet after changing the ink. Make sure the printer is on. Press Menu then use the up and down arrows to navigate to Maintenance. Click OK. Navigate to Auto Head Align and press OK. Select Yes and press OK. Load a sheet of Letter or A4 sized plain white paper in the rear tray, follow the on-screen directions. Open the output tray gently and the output tray extension. Press OK. When the page prints out, do not touch the printed sections. You should see a set of broken lines on the page, among other printing. The first section of columns will have 2 black, 1 blue and 3 black. The next row has 4 columns (blue and pink (to my eye)); the final row is 3 blue and 3 pink. If this prints okay, then select Yes and press OK. Next place the printed page face down on the glass of the scanner unit so that the black triangle at the top left of the page is in the left back corner of the glass. (The triangle is an alignment mark and lines up with the alignment mark on the edge of the scanner unit.) Close the document cover and press OK. The sheet will be scanned and the print heads will be adjusted. Do not open the document cover or move the sheet until the unit has completed the adjustment. Afterwards you can discard the sheet.

If the unit fails to adjust the print head, it will indicate this in the LCD screen. In that case, try manually adjusting the print head from the Canon Toolbox on your computer. If you can't get the printhead to align properly manually, the unit may need service.

For pictures, see the manual or support for the all-in-one here: http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/products/printers_multifunction/photo_all_in_one_inkjet_printers/pixma_mp490#ServiceAndSupport . If you use the Support option, search for align print head.

I hope this helps.

The printed pages are coming out really streaky. We have tried cleaning it, but no joy. Any advice?

Print a few pages. As they are printing open the cover. Remove the toner cartridge. Look down at the page that was being printed. If it is not "streaky" look at the fuser, it probably needs replacing.

If that page is "streaky" replace the toner cartridge.

I have a Lexmark Optra T614 and when I print mostly black pages such as large dark graphics, I get streaky vertical lines at 3" and 5" from the left side of the portrait oriented page, and a lighter...

You need to either call a repair tech and have the printer serviced for routine maintenance or order a maintenance kit from Lexmark to do the job yourself.

Just curious, what is the page count on the printer? When was the last time the entire print cartridge was replaced?

Poor print quality- streaky lines across the page

The problem might be with the type of paper you are using. Some printers require different paper types. Check the manufacturers website to see what kind of paper you need.

Streaky printing

Hi,
At most cases of printer, especially which have done refill at cartridge, print quality is poor or streaky. Many factors influencing this printed result. To overcome print quality is poor, maybe following tips can usefull to prevent printed pages are missing lines or streaky.

First step is ordinary to be done many people when print quality is streaky that is doing cleaning. To get good printed result, sometime this facility is used more than once.
Use Ink Refill with Quality Nicely
For printer have refilled, sometime the quality of printing is also influenced by ink. If will fill your printer again, use ink which the was quality of nicely. I have tested some refill inks at cartridge which have been ascertained still nicely ( sorry: I do not want to publicize result of this attempt). In the reality result make me surprise, there ink of refill making the printed quality is crummy. To choose ink refill read following tips :
  • See viscosity of ink, every merk of ink refill have difference of viscosity. Don’t use Ink refill too jell. Difference of this viscosity is no measure reference viscosity of ink from factory maker of printer
  • Don’t fear to try some inking merks. Done this, you’d find refill ink fitt with your printer. I now only using one merk of refill ink ?.
  • This suggestion of forum, but I still not yet proved. May believe or not. Good ink aroma of soft usually.
Change Original Cartridge
This is last choice. A lot not like to do this ways, because price of original cartridge still costly. Alternative, you can use compatible cartridge which the was price of cheaper than original cartridge. At newest printer, usually there are two until four cartridge in one printer. And price four same cartridge almost at the price of printer even there are some costlier.

Let me know !

Thanks

Printing fuzzy / bleed text with fuser saying needs changing soon!

Hi the blurring maybe down to the machine needing a color registration. Press the menu button then press either the up or down arrow to Maintenance press enter or # the using the up down keys again select color registration enter or # then print registration sheet once printed select M Y C or B and input the number that is on the printed sheet that corresponds to the straightest line. Once you have done this exit and try printing.

If that doesn't work then within the driver on the computer under printers and faxes right hand click on the printer select properties. Within properties you will be able to change the graphic mode please try this.

The fuser unit will need changing as they only have a life span there are no benefits to resetting as you will need to change it anyway. If you do not change the fuser then it will break leaving you with a bigger problem.

I do hope the above works for you.
Thanks J
