A solenoid is an electronic switch or relay. If you apply a voltage to one set of terminals it will open or close a larger set of contacts to operate or stop something. If you turn the key on your mower to start it sends a voltage to a set of terminals on the solenoid that will energize the coil on the larger contacts of the solenoid an turn on the starter to your engine. When the switch is released the switch goes back to on, where the voltage to the solenoid is removed an the contacts released for the starter stops. Really it is just a big switch or relay.

most problems for old or well use d2 stroke engines are the crankshaft seals
at 75 psi for 2 stroke on a pull cord I would say that is pretty good
oil/ fuel ratio will be pretty rich ( around 20:1) but if that makes it smokey drop the oil back to 40:1 or just when you can see smoke at rpms
the water pump impeller is critical ,as is the plate between the cooling and the exhaust ( can be corroded and let water into cylinders if it has one )
check for good oil in the leg box as any seal problems here will put water in the gears
as for plugs , the critical areas here are the thread length, thread diameter, multipoint plugs as single point will fowl up from slow running and heat range . select plugs with a middle of the range to hot end to burn off any oil deposits
any brand that meets those specifications will be good

What is the proper gas /oil mixture for a 1979 Johnson sea horse outboard

Hi Paul:
My old Evinrude called for 32:1 and they were second cousins.
I'd bring spare plugs and a wrench as part of my "kit" if I were running an engine that old.
Better to run extra oil and not break it.

I have a Johnson super sea horse 33 hp electric serial number j2624883 I have no spark due to the harness being cut by last owner is there a way to wire it to get it running

carefully re splice wires together as they should be color coded and gauged differently, use a solder iron or gun and wire shrink wrap(sleeves) over joints.
