It's a deadly common problem of D90. Fixation:Simply go to the DSLR repair shop and ask them to change the power circuit board of the camera. Will take $60-70 if the board available. Reason of issue:The power control IC get short and feedback the battery power to the battery causing the draining out and other problem like the top LCD back lamp turned ON after turning on the camera. Careful:To avoid this issue in future, after full charge of the battery, do not put it in the camera right then. Wait for the battery to cool down for 5-10 min and then put it in. With the full charge, the battery hold high ampere for a short time. It could damage the power distributor IC suddenly if you put it in the camera right after a full charge. Memory Card Indicator always blinks

Since a couple of months, my "out of warranty" D90 is having a problem.

Even after shutting down the unit , sometimes (post of the time) the green led is blinking (at random speed) untill the battery is 100% down (after half a day).
Switching memory card , or formatting memory card does not help.
Even without lens , problem occurs.
I tried also a other battery pack , same problem...

Anyone has an possible reason why this happens , or a 100% working solution.

PS: D90, battery packs and charger are 100% genuine NIKON.

How to Format a Memory Card with a Nikon D700

1) Insert the memory card you wish to format into the Nikon D700's body using the memory card slot on its' right side. Make sure the power is off before you insert the card and that you place the card in correctly. The D700 will only accept CF cards, so make sure you have this type available.
2) Turn the camera on with the power switch. Only do this after you have inserted the memory card and closed the memory card slot.
3) Press and hold both the Trash and MODE buttons down for about 2 seconds. Together, these are known as the 'Format' button. The Trash button is located on the back face of the D700 body next to the Preview button, and the MODE button is located on the top of the D700 body next to the shutter button and power switch. If done correctly, the letters 'For' should appear blinking in the shutter-speed sections of both the view finder and control panel.
4) Press and hold both the Trash and MODE buttons again to format the memory card. This will delete all photographs on your memory card and format it. Do not turn off the camera or remove the memory card while the card is being formatted. If you do not want to format the memory card, simply do not press the Trash and MODE buttons the second time and wait for the blinking 'For' to disappear, which it will do after about 6 seconds.
5) Wait until the blinking 'For' disappears. The display will now show the full amount of photographs that can now be taken on the formatted card.
6) Alternatively, you can also format your memory card from the Setup Menu in the D700 LCD menus. You can access this by pressing the MENU button on the back of the D700 body, selecting the Setup Menu and pressing Format Memory Card, OK. This will format your memory card immediately.

Memory access lamp continually blinks even when off...camera functions normally( as far as I can tell) but lamp drains battery even when off

This may be that your memory card has a fault and the camera is trying to write to it.
Can you try another memory card?
Memory cards can develop faults.
A memory card format in the camera may help but this will wipe all your photos.

Hi there Aug 2010 I purchased a D90 - recently the transfer program has stopped working as it does not recognise any photos for transfer even though I can see them and transfer using other windows...

I've been studying the problem for several minutes and actually downloaded the manual from the Nikon site to confirm a suspicion. With the camera software denying the transfer yet other "Windows" application are makes me believe that there is or are corrupt files on the memory card.
The Nikon D90 is a "Semi-Pro" type camera and feature packed, however if you have been deleting files and not formatting then the memory card has become saturated with empty files (deleted) what needs to be done each time you down load is format the memory card. Formatting cleans off all the old empty files, restores the memory card to a fresh medium and allows the camera and cart to communicate between each other efficiently. Also one other thing that might have happened is that the protect lock has been engaged. The camera SD card has a lock protection switch on the left upper side (with the letter facing up) this little switch need to be pushed to the top edge towards the gold contacts. I'll supply a diagram, there is also another thing is this a new memory card? if so did you format the card to the camera before you used it? Also your camera has some SD card memory capacity restrictions these are shown on page 242 of your manual.

Blinking green led even D90 is off

I couldn't find a reference to a blinking green led when the d90 is off.

I would refer you to Nikon tech support for this one.

The above link has 1-800 numbers for Nikon.

Turned camera on but it won't respond in anyway...

I've seen a couple of these now that describe similar problems with the D90. I haven't seen anything from Nikon, though. Common issues like that are normally fixed through firmware updates, but there are none out for the D90. Given that it's still under warrenty, you should take it to a local Nikon dealer and let them help you.

Manual and online (you probably know) are not too helpful on problems like this. They just tell you to put in a new or fresh charged battery.

You might try formatting the card in a PC and seeing if that clears up problems.

I've had a D70 for years and I had no problems like that at all, but I always format cards when I put them in camera, and I format on the PC every so often.

Memory access lamp flashes

WHEN POUTTING INN A MEMORY CARD ON NIKON DSLR CAMERAS THE GREEN LIGHT WILL BLINK ONE TIME .
IF IT CONTINUES TO BLINK THE CARD COULD BE BAD AND TRY TO FORMAT IT .
ALSO YOU COULD HAVE A BAD COMPRESSION BOARD.
