I really need a diagram of how it all fits together....i have the manual...but am still not getting it to fit in the locked position....

The filter has a little indent that must be placed correctly, if you put the filter in the holder and then rotate the filter you will feel it click into place when it is in the right position ( there is a gap for the indent at the front of the holder)

I purchased a new machine and cannot seem to get the stainless steel filter to fit into the filter holder and then fit into the slots - what is the trick?

try this: on the handle there is a black clip that needs to be slid back away from the filter holder; filter basket should now fit (more or less); the markings for lining up the filter-handle into the brew-head slots are a little off; look up at the brew head, familiarize yourself with the location of the slots; line up the filter handle (make sure that black tap is still pulled back, or it won't go in). hope this helps!

The coffee holder is just hanging in place, not secure against the seal as it should be. Make sure the coffee holder is secured flat up against the seal before turning the handle and locking it into place.

Breville ESP8XL Espresso Machine Cafe Roma leaking.. help please..

We had that happen and it was a crack in the black ring that holds the filter. Breville could not supply us with one but we found an OEM part in aluminum from We received it 1 week after ordering. It was pretty easy to replace. Our machine works fine now.

Breville Die Cast 800ESXL has a silicon seal (steam ring) to replace faulty or worn ones. There is no shipping charge, and they are $4 each. To replace the steam ring you'll need to remove the stainless spray disk on the brew head with a phillips screwdriver (one screw) and pull off the old ring (pay attention to the direction and placement of the stainless disk).  Takes about 2 minutes to do.
Part # .800ESXL/192

Also, on mine I noticed that the filter holder was ground down at the factory a bit too much on one side, which causes a slight leak down one side (coffee, not water).  You might check the holder (with the filter removed) for imperfections that could lead to your leak. Good luck.

The filter and the holder are actually sort of oval shaped, not perfectly round. It will fit, takes some monkeying around with it. Careful tho, the edges are pretty sharp for my 60-wpm soft hands.

Pavoni Si - leak from above filter holder

Check your screws in the bottom of the portafilter, If they are too tight the spring mechanism inside can't do its job, adjust them and it should work. Also, don't over fill your portafilter, if you put too much coffee in then there is to much pressure and again the water will flow from the top. Hope this helps
