1)tap on settings

3)next tap normal
4)then tap on the upper right side (the dialog box that says call) with the drop down arrow
5)choose message
6) then you can set it from there, you can change the setting of your msg alert type, alert tone, alert repetition, alert tone vol, and vibration pattern.

I cant set a ring tone for a text message.

Go to Menu, Setting, Sound Profile, select profile, I prefer Normal, go to the drop down menu (you should see Call), select Message, go to Message Alert Type and choose Melody, go to Message Alert Tone and touch Tones (bottom right corner) select the tone of your preference, press Add and Save... have a Blessed day!

to the vibrate issue do you have email set up?

Text Message alert???

In order to use tones other than the presets for text messages, you have to put new .WAV files on your phone. Any 8bit .WAV file will work; just connect with ActiveSync and navigate to your /Windows directory on your phone, and place the files there. You will then be able to use them as text message alert tones.
