How are you. Actually i have a problem with my notebook compaq presario x1000 screen that accidently someone step on it while it is laying on the floor and when i turned it on two vertical lines appeared on the screen( about 6mm of thicness). Having some thechnical background i dismental the screen again turned the pc on and found that by pressing the upper metal strip of the LCD the vertcal lines get thiner or vanished so i decided to open up the srip but there is a warning not to open up the white tape. Do you recomend to open that strip in order to see the vga data cables to the lcd screen are properly intacted or damaged. I know there is a inverter and high voltage area in the screen and there is no chance of shock. So please guide me because it is my favourite note book and if it is repairable then please just give me hints i can understand the technical language.

Re: LCD screen problem
Unfortunately the only thing that usually fixes this is replacing the LCD. If you open it up, you will see a white strip of tape and cables on the top, back of the LCD screen. This is the most fragile part of the LCD and is most likely where the damage is. Sometimes you can find this piece by itself, but usually you can't purchase it separately.

yeh surely only the diamention of screen matches like acer aspire 5560 has 15.4 screen its can be replaced by any 15.4 inches screen of any laptop of 15.4 excepting toshiba laptop its ccfl lamp jack is not fits in tel lcd invertor o acer
that rubbery nipple when its pressed in is what allows the screen to go into sleep mode. Sounds like it might be stuck halfway in between. Go ahead and try to take out the top cover with the rubbery nipple on it. See if the screen lights up like normal, if it does then you know the rubbery nipple is the problem and just needs to be readjusted so it doesn't get stuck.
If it still stays dim then its either the lcd or the inverter that is bad.
It is likely that the hard drive is bad or a memory issue. I would start by removing the hard drive and see if it goes past the compaq screen. If it does then you know what is wrong. If not message me and will walk you through the next step
If you connect an external monitor and use the function key, e.g.<FN><F4> to toggle between on board and external monitor and it displays a picture, then the problem is your LCD, If it does not display a picture then the problem is more apt to be the video card that is attached to the motherboard, On a friends dell it was just a bad ground screw.
