  • brad
    brad Mar 16, 2014

if speedo is going up and down that is down to the abs sensor it used for both speed and braking on the abs.

Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Malfunction. TCC PWM Solenoid Circuit Electrical. this is also used by the abs system speed to ratio for the traction control.

so is it the tcc solenoid that would make it do this or the abs sensor

I think you have an engine speed sensor fault. its not reading the engine speed or the motion speed. needs these two to change speed and ( gear). one is connected to the abs unit and the other is on the engine. usually if they both go its down to the gear box ecu. you can check if you have it on a ecu reader. will have fault codes or not be read at all.

it would be a fault some were with the abs not reading a sensor properly. jumping speedo it getting then losing the signal as the sensor reads a cog and the cog has like teeth on it if they get blocked grease muck etc the senor will not read properly. so would say the main problem is the sensor not reading. have you been driving in mud or something like that been to the beach. even drove through a flood..... or even had some work done with that wheel.

SOURCE: transmission ?

The TCC solonoid is bad I have changed hundred of these there is a square coector of the front side of the transmission, this is the connector for the TCC ( torque converter Clutch) it has a tab lock put your finger nale under the tab or a smal screwdriver and lift gently and pull the connector off the car will now drive when you put it in gear but NOT have 4th gear and theck engine light may come on you should get this fixed as soon as possible you have to take off the side transmission cover the TCC is in there only buy one directly from the GM dealer no one else trust me on this, and also change te transmissin filter and gasket while your there.
if this information is good plese give me a fixya!
Thanks and if you need more help contact me but here look at my website go to the BLOG and FAQ you will see the TCC jobs I hve done and the outcome

SOURCE: buick 94 century custome reving and irratic stumbling etc.

I've had this problem. It's most likely a large fail in one, or series of small problems in all, of these:
IAC (Idle Air Control) Valve - Will cause erratic idle
ERG (Exhaust Gas Return) Valve - Will cause irregular acceleration
*TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) - Most likely the culprit. It was my major problem. It'll cause exactly what you described.

And if you did not know this, your car is equipped with an OBD (On Board Diagnostic) system. Next time the service light comes on, whether the car is running or not, push [OFF] and [TEMP UP] on your climate control and hold for about 3 seconds. All the dash lights will come on and any error codes will be displayed where your odometer is.
Other controls are:
[FAN UP] -OK
[FAN DOWN] - Next
[OFF] - Rescan
[BI LEV] - Quit

SOURCE: My 1999 Century gives me difficulty staying started after fueling

Sounds like a fuel pressure issue. When you release the pressure in the fuel tank, the pump may have difficulty re-pressurising the system. Another possibility is the the one-way check valve in the fuel pump is faulty, and fuel drains back to the tank while you are fueling. There also exists the possibility that the tank is being overfilled, and the fuel return line is being blocked, causing an OVERpressure situation in your fuel rail, which might explain why the engine runs when you hold the accelerator pedal down. How about your fuel filter; when was it last replaced? Is the check engine light on? Take it into a qualified garage and have the codes read. Maybe the mechanic will be able to point you in the right direction.
Hope this helps!

I have a 2005 Buick Century and the key is in the ignition it is not stuck but the ignition switch will not turn in the car will not come out of park was working fine yesterday

you have shift interlock on this vehicle? My first thought was to set parking brake, then bypass the shift interlock, shift into neutral, then see if it will start and drive? Your owners manual should have info on the shift interlock.

Sometimes a steering wheel lock mechanism, puts a bind on the key cylinder. Pulling the steering wheel, one way or the other may take the bind off the lock cylinder and let it turn?
There could be other issues?

Cold Start and TRanny issues.

A neutral park switch keeps you from activating the starter in drive or reverse. It also turns the reverse lights on. Its on top of the transmission at the end of the shift cable . If it does not turn over in park try it in neutral, Clean battery cables. Check fuel pressure. Is check engine light on?

98 Ford Explorer won't move in reverse

Sometimes it may just be the fluid level, if you have drive , drive it around the block a few times, then park it on level ground and hold the brake and go through all the gears slowley, two times. put it in park, open the hood and check the fluid level, the dip stick in the back by the fire wall, take it out and clean it, read the stick. SOME need to be checked in Nutral, if this is the case do so but be carefull that the truck has stopped moving when put in nutral!!! if it is low only put in the right fluid, and a little at a time, while it is still running DO NOT OVER FILL !!!!!!!! Also sometimes it is a SENSOR problem, and in most cases not to hard or costly to replace.
