Problem for Ryobi Multi-Volt Battery Charger
I lent my battery and flashlight to a friend

I lent my Ryobi 18 V batteries and flashlight to a friend during a power failure. When they were returned, both batteries would not take a charge and the green yellow lights show on the charger. Are the batteries toast, and is the problem that they were charged before they had a total discharge?

- Thank you for the answer, jdyoder32. They are the older type, black with yellow posts. They appeared dry.However, the problem seems over. I bought a new set, and, with the instructions supplied, found that in some cases the Green/Yellow lights on only indicated that they were fully discharged. They recommended that the batteries be kept in the charger to test this out.
I did, and after about 20 minutes, the red light came on, and in about 1 hour, the green light – full charge.
I now have 4 batteries, which should last me! Sure wish I knew that before ($60 for the replacement set) – wasn’t in the original instructions that came with the charger.
FYI – you may be able to use this tip for the next guy.

Are these the older style batteries (black with yellow posts or the newer lithium ion type? In either case, if they got wet and we recharged before they were totally dry they could be permanetly damaged.
