No spark on 6.5HP B&S OHV - Briggs & Stratton Garden

when did you last replace your spark plug, clean or replaced your air filter and how long did you leave the gas in your tank?

The coil makes the spark to fire the motor. A magnet in the flywheel spins past the coil to make the spark. The coil probably has some freedom of adjustment to move it close to the magnet. Not too close or it will rub. Not too far, or you will get a weak spark.

Check the flywheel keyway, they will shear and cause the problem you are encountering.

This OHV Briggs engine has a spark plug setting of .030". You can get a manual for your machine here.

It should be under a rubber boot between the valve cover *(stamped OHV or OHC) and the muffler.

Good luck and be careful. Dont pull that boot when the engine is hot!

to check for firing remove the spark plug insert it in the plug boot and pull the rope while watching to see if the plug sparks be carefull not to touch the plug electrode while pulling the rope or it will shock you. If you don't have a spark, try a different plug. If still no spark the coil could be bad.

Carburetor cleaner will ruin the rings and do that.
