Re: windows operating system

You can make a dual book (multi OS) on your laptop so that you can just switch over to XP or vista and vice versa.

try this article on MS on how to install a multi OS. i haven't tested it in vista though...but i think it would work..please let me know. can use a Virtual PC and install XP there, its much more easier.

I cant find a ethernet driver for windows 7 home premium for my acer aspire t120c after updating from windows xp home 32 bit

Get onlineand got to In the google search box type: "AcerSupport" (without the quotes). Look for downloads and drivers. Enter your model number and operating system when requested. Download andinstall the drivers. If you don't see windows 7 drivers, maybe the vista drivers will work. Give it a try.

Hay! my laptop is toshiba satellite A135 s4527 home vista. but i run my laptop with oprating system windows XP2. how it possible. please help me

Hello and welcome to fixya.

In your case, im assuming you refer to the "Vista sticker" that is on the laptop. If a computer is vista-compatible this doesn't mean that it is not able to run older Operating Systems (such as Windows XP SP2) as well.

The sticker on the laptop just referes to the type of Operating System that came pre-installed with it. Now if you bought the laptop and asked your salesman for a DOWNGRADE TO XP Operating System or if this is what he understood then it will probably come with Windows XP instead of Vista Home.

This also applies if you are working for a company in which case the company's IT Department will decide what type of Operating System is to be installed on this computer.

Overall: Newer computers/laptop models that support Windows Vista can also run Windows XP

ALSO: Check for the OEM sticker in the back of the laptop or bottom (it looks like THIS for XP or THIS for windows vista Home Premium). This determines whether you can use a vista DVD to upgrade your computer later from XP to Vista.

If you have any more questions just let me know.

I have the acer5715/5315 series abd it crashed. I had it fixed and the guy put windows 7 so now none of my acer programs work. How can I get these to work with windows 7

Operating System Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2
Windows XP Home with Service Pack 2
Windows Vista Home Premium
Windows Vista Home Basic
Windows Vista Starter

1. Before upgrading to windows 7, you must check the specification of your acer aspire 5315.

2. Windows 7 is better than windows vista but if you are really wanted those acer programs to work. You have to downgrade your operating system from your previous operating system.

If you have a Toshiba Recovery CD you may be able to install XP, otherwise :-
You need a Windows XP installation CD together with the installation Product code.
To install Windows XP insert the CD in the laptop and boot up with the CD and follow the screen instructions.

You can download any/all the Windows XP device drivers for your model laptop from the Toshiba WEB site from their download page.
Make sure you enter the model of your laptop so you can get the correct drivers.

Upgrade vista home premium

As per my knowledge, there is no version of Vista called Vista Professional like in Windows XP.
Make sure what is the version to which you want to upgrade to from Vista Home Premium to Vista Business or Vista Ultimate.
The available versions of Vista Operating Systems along with the features supported from the Link below :

However, if you want to Upgrade the current version of Vista to a higher version like Vista Business or Vista Ultimate, you need to purchase Vista Anytime Upgrade kit from any retail store or directly from Microsoft.
You can find the required information related to Anytime Upgrade Kit from the link below :

However, make sure that you had created the Recovery Disks for your notebook using which you will be able to reinstall the preinstalled Operating Sytem along with all the Preinstalled Applications and Drivers after which you need to use the Vista Upgrade Kit to upgrade to higher version of Vista.
However, if you are currently having a 32 Bit Vista preinstalled in the Notebook, it is not possible to upgrade to a 64 Bit Vista since you can upgrade only a 32 Bit of Operating System to a higher version of 32 Bit Operating System and a 64 Bit Operating System to a higher version of 64 Bit Operating System.
Hope this helps....

Brand new gateway m-6846 vista 64bit

The maximum amount of memory that your system can use is actually limited in two ways — not only is there a maximum amount of memory that your computer motherboard can accept, there is also a maximum amount of memory that your operating system (OS) can accept.

For instance, when you install 4GB of memory in a 32-bit Windows system (the most common version; 64-bit systems are typically used only by high-end users), your system will see (and utilize) only 3GB or 3.5GB.
Relax, there isn't a problem with the memory. Windows allows for 4GB of memory to be addressed, but this isn't 100 percent the same as having 4GB of physical memory.

What happens is that some of the addressable memory (regardless of how much you have physically installed) is reserved for use by page files or by some of the devices that you are using, such as a graphics card, PCI card, integrated network connections, etc., so it's unavailable for use as normal main memory.

The amount of memory needed for these devices is calculated by your system at startup; if you haven't maxed out the memory in your system, it's invisible to you, and all your physical memory (the RAM that's installed) is available for use. However if you've maxed out the DRAM in your system, this amount will be deducted from your physical memory, so you can't use 100% of your DRAM.

The maximum memory limitation varies by operating system; for instance, the 4GB memory limitation doesn't exist in 64-bit versions of Windows.

Memory maximums for current Microsoft® Windows OSs include:

  • Windows XP Home: 4GB
  • Windows XP Professional: 4GB
  • Windows XP 32-bit: 4GB
  • Windows XP 64-bit: 128GB
  • Windows Vista Home Basic: 4GB
  • Windows Vista Home Basic 64-bit: 8GB
  • Windows Vista Home Premium: 4GB
  • Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit: 16GB
  • Windows Vista Ultimate: 4GB
  • Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit: 128GB+
  • Windows Vista 32-bit: 4GB
  • Windows Vista 64-bit: 128GB+
