I just bought a 1996 ford explorer with a factory radio in it that has just a tape deck. I have the radio from a 2002 ford explorer and was wondering if it was possible to swap them out so I can have a cd player?

You have to have special ford radio tools. they look like two horse shoes. they clip into the two holes on either side of the radio and then you push outwards and pull on the clips at the same time and the radio slides right out. the tools are usually inexpensive and can probably be found at local auto parts store

You cannot wire through the jbl amps you need to go to the amp and can only wire in the speakers

You may have a factory amplifier in the rear of the explorer in the right cargo panel. You need to supply power to it by connecting the amp power on (Blue/White I think) in the dash to a power source (such as red on your stereo harness) so it comes on with the key. If you do have the amplifier, that's why you have no sound.
