There is something preventing the seat from latching in the upright position. Look for a piece of cloth or paper preventing the seat from becoming fully upright.
the gear broke or the bar inside is broken, take it to a body shop and have them dis -assemble the covering on the rear of the seat then you can see the problem
First make sure that the seat cushion is pushed completely back under the seat back that you are trying to fold down. If that does not work, check to see if something is blocking the seat cushion from being pushed back completely. Hope that helps!
Try using the fully upright (meaning clip the backs) but unzip the sides just a bit or all the way. Also if you need more head support, use one of those carseat head positioners for a little more support. My little one loved getting to ride in the front when big sis wasn't around!
Before you put click the seat unit on, ensure that both of the upright prongs (black) are pointing directly upwards. Click on the seat, this should then be completely horizontal (ensure that you hear both sides clicking onto the frame) Once the seat is on, then adjust this to the normal/required postition. I hope this helps.
