Question about Panasonic PT-47WX49 47" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

White outlines in HD mode

When I run my Panasonic PT-47WX49 with an HD input, I get white lines between certain shades -- usually appears like an outline of a color gradient or sometimes a shimmer across a field.  Kind of like a solarization effect.  This happens on my DVD player and my XBOX 360.  I have tried resetting the convergence and playing with all the on-screen picture adjustments.  Is there a way to fix this?

Horizontal Green Convergence line on PT-47WX49 is offset to the left 1-2" and can not be ajusted back. The center of the TV viewing picture is the only portion that appears normal.

you will need to replace the convergence ICs and feed resistors. You can get the convergence repair kit for your model at the following link. The kit contains the parts and a CD with the instructions on how to do the repair.

Convergence problem

If you cross reference this term, I think you'll find alot of helpful info on your problem:

Convergence amp ICs

These (there are probably two of them) are probably burned out, at least one of them. From what I see online in blogs and such, this repair can run several hundred dollars to have done professionally, but if you are qualified (or at least careful enough to learn how to do it SAFELY and CORRECTLY) you can do it youself for around $12 - $50, depending on what model part your set uses.

Hope this helps. I am about to embark on this same repair myself on my Panasonic PT47WX53G, so my best to you.

PT-47WX49 - Pink wavy horizontal lines

Try doing a reset of the TV first. On Panasonics this is done with the TV on and then pressing on the POWER and ACTION (on the fron of the TV only) buttons at the same time until the screen blanks out or a diagnostic screen appears. Once you do this all custom functions (color, tint, channel memory) will be back to factory defaults.

Widescreen thinks it's a big screen

Information as to the type of signal input is needed to resolve this problem. Does it appear in zoom mode when playing a dvd, or just in catv mode? Some times an HD cable box must be reset to a particular aspect ratio. This can be done by reading the owners manual of the cable box manufacturer. Scrivitron
