I made a very dumb mistake this afternoon with my 2004 Nissan parthfind......The battery is dead so I had to jump start the truck, and I hooked up the positive and negative backwards. The second that I touched the jumper cable to my truck sparks flew and smoke poured from the positive cable on my truck. After I made the mistake, I hooked up the cables the proper way, and there was no power at all to my truck. i checked all the fuse on my truck and all seems to be okay. What else do you think might be the problem.
Check the fuse box again. This happened to me and it was a 10 amp fuse that was blown labeled pcm b
It should have blown the main fuse in the fuse box under the hood. This is a general response, not specific to your vehicle. I think Nissan also has lead based wires that could have melted in two. I'd check for signs of melted insulation on smaller red wire that supplies power to the fuse block. The main fuses are generally a different style but you should be able to visually check them. If you are familiar with a volt meter you could pull the fuse and check it on ohm setting, or check DC voltage on both sides of fuse. Ground black lead to battery negative and touch red lead to both sides of fuse. If you have 12 volts on one side but not the other side that would indicate a blown fuse. Also check the chassis ground to make sure it's connected and not melted in two. If it has a break in it it will also kill all power as well. I'd focus on the smaller wires. Did you try to turn headlights or anything else just to help troubleshoot?
First-- the negative cable from the charging vehicle ,
does NOT go to your battery,it goes to the engine block
Only the positive cable goes to the vehicle being jumped
You will have a large 100 amp fuse or fusible link, that may look like a fuse or a hidden buss bar
You will need a wiring diagram to find a test point or place to open
things up
You may have fried several feature, once you get it to start & is drivable
