Question about Xerox Phaser 7700 Laser Printer

1 Answer

Erratic black fusing

I have a Xerox Phaser 7700gx. I use a macbook pro and an imac. There are two other mac book pro's on the network. The problem exists when printing from any computer. The problem is this:excessive application of black toner and poor fusing of the black toner. When there is a lot of black, the paper will roll up in the fuser and jam BUT this only happens on certain applications. PDF's always jam, quicken checks come out with thick poorly fused text. Safari may give a good header and poor text. Multi color documents always print with perfect color but the black falls off. Claris works prints absolutely perfectly! I placed my black logo on a .rtf documennt. The .rtf text was perfect but the logo fell off the page!

This problem is driving me nuts and the printer is useless. Other forums I posted to gave up. Service outfits refuse to deal with it. I installed a new fuser, new Xerox black toner, and tried different papers. Also installed new drivers. Tried using USB. Nothing works. HELP!!!!

I think you are on to something. When a paper jams in the fuser, you
can see how multiple colors were laid out to become to  black. I am
going to try printing in grey scale and see what happens. That could explain why, on the same page,  black text (K) is solid but a black graphic (CYM combo) flakes. Some apps must print text in CYM (quicken checks). I have noticed a lot of off black text (brownish or blueish) but always acceped it since it was fused well. Meanwhile,
can you advise me how to control the colors?

I'm not real sure about how the software separates the colors, but I believe there's a way to choose a color as all colors combined to make black, or simple black.

I'm not sure if I'm making any sense, but if the printer is using all the colors to layer up and make black, then it would be a pretty thick coating and that might cause it to flake off.

hmmm...that's where I can't help you.  I do know that in some programs, you can use the cmyk mode and make the mcy zero and make the k 255, but that's about as far as my knowledge takes me...I hope this helps.

Transferring data/programs from Mac book to iMac using Ethernet cable. All was going well till last minute, and it has been stuck on that for 3+ hours. Don't know what to do. Help please Elise

Assuming the MacBook has FireWire, get a firewire800 cable. PLug it into both Macs FireWire ports. Shut down MacBook, restart and hold T key = target disk mode. MacBook will appear as any other mounted external drive on your desktop. *From there, you can either manually drag files over or open Migration Assistant on the iMac and migrate user/data/ apps.

I am running OS X 10.4.11 and would like to upgrade my operating system?

Please provide more information.
To what would you like to upgrade it?

Since OSX Mavericks was just announced, I'm going to assume that's what you're wanting to upgrade to.

Not all Macs can run Mavericks.

Mavericks Capable Macs

Mavericks, like its predecessor Mountain Lion, requires one of the following Macs with at least 2 GB of RAM and 8 GB of available hard drive space:
  • iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
  • MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
  • MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
  • MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
  • Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
  • Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
  • Xserve (Early 2009)

If your Mac isn't one of the ones listed above, you won't be able to upgrade.

If you have an iMac, MacBook, MacBook Pro, or Mac mini model that was originally released in Early/Mid 2006, the latest version of Mac OS X your system supports is Snow Leopard.

Patchy color printing, streaks and dull colors using Phaser 8200

I have the same exact problem. I just switched to a mac and the colors are awful. I tried from 3 different macs at work, trying different combinations of color profiles, settings, etc, and the colors always look completely off. Blues are magenta, bright red is a dull reddish, orange is completely brown. It looks like Xerox decided to not even try to make this aspect work with the Mac. This is on the latest Mac book Pro, running Snow Leopard, to a Xerox Phaser 8560 DN.

Phaser 7700GX getting yellow bar down the side of page on all prints

Try cleaning the Laser Unit for Yellow. Try replacing the Imaging Unit for Yellow, or simply take it out and move it to another color.... if the problem occurs on the the other color then it is definitely your Imaging Unit. One of those two is probably causing your issue.

Good Luck.
