Question about Home Theater Systems
Every time there is a loud explosion or something similar the sound briefly cuts out. I have tried adjusting the DRC control tp on and off on this system but it has proven to be pointless. I would appreciate any assistance regarding this matter.
SOURCE: Problem With Sound
THE SOLUTION KINDLY POSTED BY MARK TO A PREVIOUS PROBLEM SHOULD FIX THE SOUND ON THIS ONE AS IT WOULD APPEAR THAT THERE ARE INHERENT PROBLEMS WITH THIS MODEL AND THE SOUND OUTPUT Problem:posted by johnny 5 on Sep 02, 2006Report abuse Have had this sys for about 2 years and recently moved it to another room but when re-installed it would only play through the headphones. Moved it back to its original position but it hasn't corrected the problem. Very simple to fix if you know how to works a screwdriver and soldering iron! Take the cover off and with the back of the unit facing you, you'll see teh amp PCB in the left hand corner to the back. At this time its the wrong way up to fix it so you'll have to remove the Ariel connection box and the speaker connection PCB both are very easy to do. Lay these out of harms way but do not disconnect any of their ribbon cables as its not needed. Now you can unscrew the amp PCB which is bellow both boards you have just removed. Disconnect the phono wire from the PCB (keep a note of that) and disconnect the power lead to the PCB on the right. Up turn the PCB and remove the copper heat sheild. You should now find the dry joints. The phono plug you just disconnected fits into a multi socket on the PCB. This will probably be loose or have more than one dry joint. Re-solder all these making sure not to link any together. Now find the large brown capacitor and check these joints and if needed re-solder. Check for any other dry joints while at this stage if any look slightly poor give them a quick dab with the soldering iron but make sure you don't fry a chip!!. Re-assembele remebering to reconnect the phono wire. I allways check before putting the case back on. This worked for my S400 after my 18 month old got hold of it. Good luck! Thank you for rating this solution.

The SC-HT500 is only for use in the UK, Ireland, Australia, and a few other places - you will need at least a transformer if you want to try to use it in the US. The manual can be found here:

The TV and process the sound differently so the echo is a just a time smear. You shouldn't actually need to augment the HTS speakers with (ugh) TV speakers.
As far as comparative TV-sound loudness goes, if you drew it from the Cable Box to the audio system I'm sure it would be the same as your other audio. TV
