I have had my 1610 for close to a couple years had been great, but lately I have had a black line running through the middle of my scans. I have tried reseting to factory defaults and unplugging it too.

Re: Black Line in scans
You'll have to take it apart and get at the scanning unit (the little light that moves back and forth. They don't make a manual for that (that I can find) so it'll be a bear to figure out.
But once you get it apart, clean the scanner (lights) and any mirrors you can find. Then clean the glass. And look at where the scanner rests when you're not using the copier. On the underside of the glass, just above this point, you'll see a white strip. Make sure it's clean.
Oh...this is assuming that it only happens with copies and not with computer prints.

Check your flat bed and Document feeder scanning glass need to be clean, if any dot or dust in scanning glass of document feeder it will appear a line, check this points first 1- Check printouts from computer or FAX if it is clean problem in scanning section 2- Check using Copying a blank paper using only Flatbed if it prints without any line its problem from document feeder Scanning glass So solution is clean the Document feeder scanning glass using wet cloth, note careful about wet cloth switch off the machine and clean it
The line issue is caused by something on the image sensor. To get to it and clean it just pull the front up where you put the paper into it to scan. Inside you will find a glass strip, this is the image sensor. Use a paper towel dampened with window cleaner and gently scrubbing the glass strip, After cleaning the strip let it dry for a minute or teo before you close the cover and try a scan. It should be clear and should copy great again.
I hope this helps, if so please rate our solution.
NO, I DID NOT GET IT FIXED. YOU TOLD ME TO SCAN SOMETHING TO THE PC, WHICH I DID. SENT PAGE TO MICROSOFT WORD AND THE BLACK LINE WAS STILL THERE. I BELIEVE MY SOLUTION IS TO JUNK THIS THING AND BUY ANOTHER.
I had the same problem, and I just fixed it. It was a tiny little black dot which was stuck to the glass where the document feeder passes the paper to. First you need to figure out where the line is on paper with respect to the paper, and just carefully run your finger on the glass to see if there is something on the glass. I removed it, cleaned the glass, and anything which I run through the document feeder is now fine. Hope this helps.
