Go to your control panel and open sytem folder, proceed to hardware tab, click on device manager and select the name of your CD-ROM drive. see if this device is enabled, right click on it and open properties. You may then use the windows trouble shooter to isolate your problem.

I had same problem with my cdrom drive on my emachines. i put in a cd and the next thing i know the driver broke. When i took it apart, the cd blew up into small peices. way bizzare. all i can suggest is unplugging the cord inside the computer and then plug it back in. Possibly a bad connection

Hi, You should be able to get a paper clip, preferably one of the bigger ones and open it out so you have a straight section of wire, then at the fron of the CD drive you will find a very small hole. Carefully slip the wire into the hole as far as it will go then you will need to push against the manual release with reasonable pressure and the door will come open. Remove your disk and close the door and restart the machine. It may be that the disc became stuck for some reason and froze the drive. Once the offending disc is removed it will hopefully come back online.
If it doesn't come back then the CD drive may have failed, fortunately they are not too expensive to replace anymore.

Hello.. I need some help. I am using toshiba satellite a1O system laptop was fyn till nw..all of a sudden windows doesnt load..when i turn the power on, the toshiba logo is shown..then black...

First thing you do is to see what hard disc installed in your laptop. You can check that by checking it in your bios system. To check in your bios system first turn off your computer then press delete while your laptop is booting up. Then you will see if there is a hard disk detected in your lap top if there is a detected hard drive this means you have a problem in your windows installed in your lap top.
There is also a reason why those message appear if the first boot of your laptop is the CD/DVD ROM. Check you CD/DVD ROM if there a CD inside this may the first on to read while the laptop booting up. Remove the cd inside your CD/DVD ROM. Then restart your laptop. Check your hard disk connector it may have some loose contact thats why your laptop did not recognize the hard disc.
Hope this can help keep on touch with fixya. Hope to hear some testimonial from you. . .

I am trying to add software to my computer and for some reason its not reading the disk (the disk is new). Install wizard does not come up either.

Click your start button then click my computer then on my computer you will see the icon for your DVD/CD ROM drive right click on it then click explore. Then the files inside your CD/DVD ROM will show on the screen then on application menu click view then details. It shows the details of the contains of your CD then click the application for the software you wish to install. It is an .exe files. You can now install the software. Or you can also right click on your CD/DVD rom then click properties then click autoplay.

CD tray opens and shuts fine. With CD loaded and shut the screen still says NO DISK. These are disks which have always played without problem on this CD player. Is there anything I can try before taking...

When the CD player loads properly and still reads as no disk this indicates that the player lens (Optical device which reads the disk information) Is either dirty or bad. The only option you have is to get a disk lens cleaner and run it on the system. Once you run it, it is supposed to work if the lens is not spoilt. Otherwise you will just have to replace the lens by taking it to a repairer.
Hope this solution has been helpful?

My samsung BD-P2500 Bluray player is stuck at a load message

First try disconnecting power cord for five minutes. On restart keep playing eject while the unit is starting up, to eject if there is a disk stuck inside.

Contact Samsung support number, listed on the owners manual. If a firmware update is available they will guide through the update.

If the firmware update does not fix the problem, then the BD player may have a defective or dirty lens.

Using lens cleaner can invalidate warranty, talk to Samsung first.

Devd drive works only as a cd drive

Hi crlatoursr,

this sounds like a very common driver problem. I would go to the manufacturers website and download the latest drivers. If this does not fix it then its possible that you need to clean the inside of the DVD rom. There are a few ways that you can do this but the best way in my opinion is a cd cleaner disk sold in your favorite computer shop. You buy the disk, pop it in and let it run. This has fixed many of my clients Optical drives in the past and only takes a few minutes.

Restore factory settings

what i would do is go into dos. If you cant get into dos find a windows 98 setup disk 3.5" this will have the dos files that will allow the computer to reconize a generic cd rom. This should allow you to get your recovery disk working. Your software problem could of created a firmware problem also. Not reconizing the cd rom. This solution will provide the basics to get your cd rom loading the recovery disk for you. If you have questions or more problems feel free to contact me and i will take you through it step by step
