SAMSUNG DVD R120 error EC:0207

My SAMSUNG R120 was playing & recording without problems. Few days ago I tried to record blank DVD (DVD -R, x2 speed) and error message appeared: "This disc can be neither played nor recorded. Please check the disc. [EC:0207]" I reinstaled FIRMWARE but didn't help. I tried other brands but didn't work as well. Please help!

I have also tried numerous brands of discs trying to get it to record without success. It plays DVD just fine - but paid more to get one that could record.

I have used the Samsung R120 to record for the last year and it worked fine. Recently I got a new pack of TDK -R DVD Media. All I got was a system error message when I put in a new blank disk. Now even older Office Depot blanks (that worked before) give me the same error message. Thinking my unit was bad I got another R120 (factory refurb) on Ebay. That unit also giver same error message. Both units playback prerecorded factory DVD's ok.

I had exactly the same problem -- error message of "This disc can be neither played nor recorded. Please check the disk [EC:0207]" after the machine had been working fine for a year. I downloaded the latest firmware from the Samsung website, burned it to a CD-R disk (took three tries until the DVD Recorder recognized the disk -- worked when I used Rocio CD Creater software), then loaded the firmware updates to the DVD Recorder. On the Samsung website you can retrive the firmware update instructions as well. I had to perform the firmware upgrade several times until it successfully updated both the system firmware as well as the disk firmware. After successfully updating both, the Recorder now recognizes the DVD-R disks and I was able to resume recording. I have however, noted some choppiness with the playback of the newly recorded disks. Other than that, the firmware upgrade successfully resolved the problem.

Search for the latest firmware for Samsung R120 and download it, burn it to a disc, then put it in the player. Get the latest firmware and you'll be fine.

Samsung DVD-R120, can I save what?s on a DVD-R that won?t play?

If it will not play either on the recorder it was recorded on or any other player, you need professional help retrieving the data. There are places where this can be done, but it will probably cost MANY times what the disc does.

Won't Read blank disc!!

I my DVD-HR735 wont recognise any discs at times, and is getting worse. I've now discovered (out of frustration) that if I tip the front up to between 30-45 degrees, it will play all the discs it says were unreadable. I've started jamming three dvd boxes under the front of the machine when i want to play dvds.

try checking on the recording mode of the DVD. V recording mode produces more compatible DVD disc. Stay away from VR mode. You may refer to your manual.

Won't Read blank disc!!

Ok, I talked to Samsung support again today, and they confirm that the firmware update should correct the problem of incompatibility with 1-16x discs. They are going to mail a CD with the firmware update to me, at no charge. They were not, however, able to tell me if the file I had originally downloaded from their website was the same as what will be coming on the CD. Sheesh!!

If I can determine that they are the same file, I will post such info. here later. Otherwise, I would advise contacting Samsung support and requesting a disc.

The phone no. is:

DVD recoder not recording

I had this problem with my R120, it first wouldn't record and eventually wouldn't play, just gave either an error message or "wrong disc.' Then, another DVD player I own did the same thing.

What worked? I opened them both up and swabbed the laser lens with alcohol and then the clean end of the cotton swab. Now both work like a charm. I figure that all the dirty rental DVDs lowly drop dust and gunk and over a few months the build-up caused failure.

Just to be safe, I also used canned air to remove from inside the unit, around the circuit board and on the lens.

I'd advise leaving the unit unplugged for a day or more to let any stored energy drain and if you're not familiar with safety procedures, take it to someone who is.
