Do not trust DVD disks to save movies on, put ALL your camera film on PC drives only, once on the drive your Windows PC will burn DVD disks for you.

I am inqiring for a software for DCR -120E PAL so that whatever I obtain films from the casette can be downlaoded to CD's.

I think it has got to be DVD disks rather than CD, as most CD disks carry music, and with film being greedy with space you need good size DVD really to put movies on.

How can I convert my 8mm tapes to a digital format and save to my hard drive?

If you have DVD Recorder then hook your Video-8 camera in analog AV input and burn a DVD, this will convert analog video/ audio signal of camcorder in digital format and transfer the data on DVD as well. Put that dvd in computer and save it in computer.

I have a sony dcr-trv255e. I cannot get a picture in the viewfinder or on screen even though the lens cap is off. It plays tapes ok. Any ideas?

It is problem of bad CCD Imager and that part will be replaced.
Sony will replace ccd imager Free of Cost in DCR-TRV255E as per announced scheme.
