Question about Canon PowerShot A85 Digital Camera

1 Answer

The viewing screen has constantly horizontal flickering lines making it almost impossible to compose pictures. Everything else works, shots taken are fine. It was a great camera and not that old, I don`t want to lose it.

See the canon support site. Mine did the same thing then progressed to poor pictures as well. I just called them tonight and will be sending my camera off free of charge to be evaluated and then they will replace or repair for free if it is the sensor. :)

Good Luck! It sounds like they really want to remedy these situations!

Can I get it repaired somewhere?

The lines are not your screen, you must get it repaired or get a new one. Just to make sure, Zoom into a picture and see if the lines stay where they are, if not then get it fixed

I mailed my sister a Vivitar 7022 and she cannot open the manual files from the included disk. Also, when she unpackaged the camera it had a cracked screen. How can she obtain the manual, and is the camera...

The manual can be downloaded from the manufacturer's web site at

If the crack is only on the glass then the camera and the screen will work, albeit the crack may hinder viewing. If the crack involves the electronics as well then part or all of the screen will be inoperative, making it difficult or impossible to use the menus, compose new pictures, and review old pictures, however the camera will still record images to the memory card for subsequent transfer to a computer. If the crack is symptomatic of deeper internal damage then the camera may not work.

Lcd screen stays on and cannot see subject

"Live View", where you can see and compose your picture on the LCD, was not available on any digital SLR before 2007 (the Rebel XTi came out in late 2006). So you need to compose your picture using the optical viewfinder, take your picture, and the picture shows up on the LCD after you've taken it.

But it's still faster than having to wait until the film is developed. :-)

LCD screen 'flicker'

Try setting the video output option to NTSC (if it's on PAL). I know this sounds funny, but I have heard some rumblings about this option somehow creating a LCD flicker. If it doesn't work, I apologize in advance for wasting your time! My camera is on NTSC and I haven't seen any flicker on the file numbers on the LCD.
