you need to connect the handheld to your PC and then use software to change settings for the device. There is no other way for the settings to persist a cold boot.

TRY TO UPGRADE THE AP FIRMWARE

If you have access to your MC9060 handheld SD card (below keyboard), download and unzip 9060LenUP040300.zip from http://support.symbol.com/support/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=11488&sliceId=&dialogID=189014909&stateId=1 0 189012464 to the root directory on SD card, Full charge the battery, and run OSupdate.lnk, 4 - 6 minutes and Voal?!!! fresh and updated WM2003 OS............

If it is a Lorax equipped unit, you can't. The extended range scanner in the Lorax scanner version will read a 'standard" barocde, but from farther away than a standard range scanner.
