A clicking noise when making sharp turns, such as when backing up or turning through an intersection? CV joint. Look at the axle on the noisy side and there'll be a couple boots. One may be torn. Dirt and water get in there and wash out the grease and wreck the joint. Best place to start.

SOURCE: why does my front axle

It could be caused by a torn CV joint boot on the axle. The boot holds grease to lubricate the CV, and when the boot is torn, the grease comes out, causing a click or grind. I;m assuming this issue is not brake related of course.

Mr car is making a loud metal grinding noise when put in gear to go forward what's wrong

You could have broken the axle shaft. It can break in the cv joint and just spin or on some models the axle splines can strip out of the axle hub. The car usually won't move or it can move only a little and then stop with grinding noise.

Grinding Like Noise...

Axles don't grind, they have more of a popping or
snapping sound.
Axles get replaced when the rubber boots tear &
water gets into the joints or the joints are making a
noise, as well as feel loose

I would hope the brakes were removed so the wheel
hub bearings could be felt for roughness when the axles
were out

I suspect that is your noise

Do both sides if that is the case.

The other possibility is worn transaxle differential
bearings. I am guessing you have an automatic

If you have a standard shift then there are many things
there that could cause noise

88sedandeville, something snapped in transaxle or rh axle, just makes strange whirring grind noise. Is it drive chain or axle? Should I just get another trans?

make sure the axle joint didn't fail then on the pass side of the car behind the axle there is a cover that houses the differential open that and check the gears in there

My 95 Camry cant go into 5th gear. I was told that it was the clutch because it was making a grinding noise. I got the clutch fixed but even after that its not taking 5th gear and its still making the...

If the clutch is bad it would make the same noise in every gear, because the clutch does always the same engage and disengage the trans and its different gears. So if there is a noise in a specific gear the problem is the trans-axle ( if the noise is coming from the trans axle.)

Right front axel make grinding sound

not sure the question here? if your axle is making noise like a clicking grinding ratcheting type sound, then the cv joint is bad and need to be replaced. replace the axle as an assembly.

Grinds @ transaxcel, when put in gear.

Sounds like the axel is not in all the way. There is a lock ring on the tranny side of the axle that needs to snap into place. Recommend pulling the axle, ensure the lock ring is in place on the axle and reinstall. Make sure the axle snaps into the tranny.

Cv axle

Probably the wheel bering. If your going down the road and turn to the passenger side and it gets worse, its the drivers side bering and visa versa.
