I purchased a new Matsui DAB Portable Radio MATDR100 yesterday from ebay, i was really pleased with it but today, the reception went blurry and then it cut off suddenly. There is still power going into it as the display shows a light, it should also show the frequency that it is tuned to but the display has gone totally apart from the light, nothing happens when i press any of the buttons, i have even tried holding them in but to no avail. I would be g.rateful for any useful suggestions

Buildings constructed from steel and reflective glass are not good for radios with internal aerials as they reflect and greatly reduce the strength of signal. In such a case an external aerial will greatly improve reception, but most importantly, if you are using the supplied telescopic aerial, you should ensure that it is properly fitted and fully extended upright.
Secondly, when our products are first powered up from new, they automatically scan the DAB network to see which services are available. During this process it is important that the radio is not touched and that the aerial has been correctly fitted and extended as instructed. If this has not been done then it is likely that not all stations will be detected and only the strong ones displayed. To correct this a new AutoScan/AutoTune or System Reset should be performed as instructed elsewhere in our Q&A's.

The power adapter is most probably a standard type. On the radio, Check the voltage rating, the polarity. There are many adapters with multiple output voltage, multiple tips and reversible polarity.

What's the make & model of the radio?
Most DAB/FM radios work from the same antenna, so if you receive FM stations, you should receive DAB stations in your area.
It should be noted that DAB transmitters work on lower power than conventional FM transmitters, and so you may be in a weak reception area (for DAB). It should also be noted that DAB uses different frequencies than regular FM stations and household appliances such as laptops,WiFi, microwave ovens, etc can affect DAb reception.

I used lateral thinking! looked at the instructions for my other matsui DAB radio and worked it out from there. With this Ferguson model you have to find the station you want manually and then press one of the preset buttons (it only has 4 but these are enough for me)

DON'T FORGET TO RATE;

It is possible for the display to be set so low that it is not illuminated at all. With the radio off (i.e. the set must be in standby), press and hold TUNE+ to raise the brightness level.

If this gets the display back, you may be able to see what has happened to the tuning. e.g. check whether the tuner is set to FM or DAB etc.
